The MacBook 13 Inch Early 2009 supports a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive or SSD. Upgrading to an SSD can improve performance significantly. Ensure the new drive's thickness does not exceed 9.5mm.
Back up your data first. Create a bootable USB installer with a compatible macOS version. Restart your MacBook and hold the Option key to select the USB drive. Use Disk Utility to erase the main drive, then proceed with the installation from the USB installer.
Check for software updates and install them. Free up disk space and close unnecessary applications. Consider upgrading the RAM and hard drive to an SSD. Resetting the SMC and PRAM can also help improve performance.
Use a Mini DisplayPort to VGA or HDMI adapter to connect your MacBook to an external monitor. Once connected, your MacBook should automatically detect the monitor. Adjust display settings in System Preferences under Displays.
Reduce screen brightness, close unnecessary applications, and disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not needed. Use the Energy Saver preferences to optimize battery usage. Regularly calibrate your battery by fully charging and then discharging it once a month.
Shut down your MacBook and remove the power adapter. Use a coin to unlock and remove the battery. Insert the new battery and lock it into place. Power on your MacBook and check the battery status in System Preferences under Battery.
Restart your MacBook and router. Ensure Wi-Fi is turned on in System Preferences. Run Wireless Diagnostics by holding the Option key and clicking the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar. Forget the network and reconnect if issues persist.
