To reset the BIOS on your Lenovo ThinkPad T490s, restart the laptop and press F1 during the boot process to enter the BIOS setup. Once in the BIOS, navigate to the 'Exit' tab and select 'Load Setup Defaults', then save and exit.
First, ensure the laptop is connected to a power source and the power adapter is working. Perform a hard reset by disconnecting the power adapter, removing the battery if possible, and holding the power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect the battery and adapter, then try turning it on again.
To improve battery life, reduce screen brightness, close unnecessary programs, disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use, and use the Windows 'Battery Saver' mode. Consider updating your power management settings in the Lenovo Vantage software.
Connect the external monitor to your ThinkPad T490s using an HDMI or USB-C cable. Once connected, press Windows + P to open the display options and select the desired mode (Duplicate, Extend, or Second screen only).
To upgrade the RAM, power off the laptop and disconnect all cables. Remove the screws on the bottom panel and gently pry it open. Locate the RAM slot, remove the existing module by unlocking the latches, and insert the new RAM module at a 45-degree angle. Press it down to lock it in place, then reattach the bottom panel.
To perform a factory reset, back up your data first. Then, go to 'Settings' > 'Update & Security' > 'Recovery'. Under 'Reset this PC', click on 'Get started', and choose 'Remove everything' for a full reset. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Ensure the touchpad is enabled by pressing the F6 key with the touchpad icon. If the touchpad is still unresponsive, update or reinstall the touchpad driver through the Device Manager. You can also try resetting the laptop by turning it off and on again.
To update drivers, open the Lenovo Vantage software and navigate to 'System Update'. Check for updates and install any available drivers. Alternatively, visit the Lenovo support website, enter your model number, and manually download and install the latest drivers.
To enable the fingerprint scanner, go to 'Settings' > 'Accounts' > 'Sign-in options'. Under 'Windows Hello Fingerprint', click 'Set up', and follow the instructions to register your fingerprint. Ensure that the scanner is clean and free of dust for optimal performance.
First, check if the audio is muted or the volume is too low. Ensure the correct playback device is selected in 'Sound settings'. Update the audio driver via Device Manager or Lenovo Vantage. If the issue persists, try restarting the Windows Audio service.
