To reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your MacBook Pro 15-inch 2016, shut down your Mac, then press and hold Shift + Control + Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, along with the power button, for 10 seconds. Release all keys and the power button, then press the power button again to turn on your Mac.
Ensure your MacBook is connected to a power source. Check the power connections and try a different power adapter if possible. Perform an SMC reset as described in QA1. If the issue persists, try resetting the NVRAM by holding Option + Command + P + R when restarting your Mac.
Start by rebooting your MacBook and router. Ensure macOS is up-to-date. Use the wireless diagnostics tool by holding the Option key and clicking on the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar, then select "Open Wireless Diagnostics." Follow the on-screen instructions.
Back up your data using Time Machine. Restart your Mac and hold Command + R to enter Recovery Mode. Use Disk Utility to erase your drive. Then, select "Reinstall macOS" from the macOS Utilities window and follow the instructions to complete the installation.
Keep your macOS and apps updated. Avoid extreme temperatures and remove the case while charging. Perform regular battery cycles and calibrate the battery every few months. Use the Battery Health Management feature in System Preferences to prolong battery lifespan.
Use a compatible USB-C to HDMI or USB-C to DisplayPort adapter, depending on your display's input. Connect the adapter to one of your MacBook's Thunderbolt 3 ports and the other end to your external display. Adjust display settings in System Preferences under "Displays."
Try resetting the SMC as outlined in QA1. Check for any macOS updates and install them. Inspect the keyboard for debris and clean it using compressed air. If the issue persists, consider seeking professional service as the keyboard may require replacement.
Use the "About This Mac" storage management feature to identify large files. Enable "Optimize Storage" for iTunes movies and TV shows. Regularly empty the Trash and remove unnecessary files. Consider using cloud storage solutions for additional space.
Open System Preferences and select "Displays." Click on the "Night Shift" tab. Set a schedule or enable it manually to reduce blue light exposure by adjusting the display colors to a warmer spectrum.
Ensure that your macOS and all applications are up-to-date. Limit the number of startup programs. Regularly clear cache files and consider using Activity Monitor to identify and close resource-heavy processes. If the performance issue is significant, consider upgrading the SSD.
