Synology DS-101g+ Quick Installation Guide

To set up your Synology DS-101g+ for the first time, connect it to your network and power it on. Use the Synology Assistant software to find the device on your network and follow the on-screen instructions to install DiskStation Manager (DSM).
Ensure that the device is powered on and properly connected to the network. Check your router settings to see if the device has been assigned an IP address. You can also try using the Synology Assistant to locate the device.
Install Synology's Cloud Station Backup software on your computer. Select the folders you wish to back up and choose the DS-101g+ as the backup destination. Ensure that the backup task is scheduled according to your preference.
To expand storage, you can replace existing drives with larger ones or add additional drives if there are available slots. After installing new drives, use the Storage Manager in DSM to expand the storage pool.
To perform a factory reset, press and hold the RESET button on the back of the unit for about 4 seconds until you hear a beep. Release the button and wait for the system to restart. This will reset network settings and administrator login.
Enable QuickConnect in the Control Panel under Connectivity. Register for a Synology account and create a QuickConnect ID. Use this ID to access your DS-101g+ from anywhere with an internet connection.
Use the RESET button on the back of the DS-101g+ to reset the administrator password. Press and hold the button for around 4 seconds until you hear a beep, then use the default admin credentials to log in and set a new password.
Check the system resource monitor for high CPU or RAM usage. Disable unnecessary services or applications running on the DS-101g+. Consider upgrading the RAM if possible or optimizing the storage volume.
Enable 2-step verification for your DSM account, use strong passwords, and ensure that the firewall is configured. Regularly update DSM and installed packages to the latest versions to protect against vulnerabilities.
Power off the DS-101g+, then remove the faulty drive. Insert a new drive of equal or larger capacity, and power on the unit. Use the Storage Manager in DSM to repair the storage volume and ensure data integrity.
