To assemble the West Bend L5707B Ice Shaver, first ensure all parts are clean. Attach the ice hopper to the base, secure the blade in place, and ensure the safety cover is properly aligned and locked.
Check if the appliance is properly plugged into a functional power outlet. Ensure the safety cover is securely in place as the unit will not operate without it. Also, check the fuse or circuit breaker.
Disconnect the shaver from the power supply. Remove the ice hopper and blade for separate cleaning. Use warm water and mild detergent to clean the parts, and wipe the base with a damp cloth. Do not submerge the base in water.
It is recommended to use block ice or large ice cubes for optimal shaving performance. Avoid using small ice cubes as they may not produce the desired consistency.
Adjust the blade height using the adjustment knob located near the blade housing. Experiment with different settings to achieve the desired ice texture, from fine snow-like consistency to coarser chunks.
Ensure the blade is securely fastened and not worn out. Check if any foreign objects are lodged in the blade area. Also, verify that the ice being used is not too hard or too large for the blade.
The blade should be replaced when it becomes dull or if you notice the quality of the shaved ice is not as expected. Frequency of replacement depends on usage, but typically every 6-12 months.
The West Bend L5707B is primarily designed for home use. For commercial purposes, a more robust, commercial-grade ice shaver is recommended.
Turn off and unplug the machine immediately. Remove any remaining ice and check for blockages in the blade area. Clear any obstructions before resuming operation.
To prevent overheating, it is recommended to allow the ice shaver to rest for a few minutes after 10 minutes of continuous operation. This will help prolong the motor's lifespan.
