Ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Pull the starter handle slowly until you feel resistance, then pull quickly to start the engine. Make sure the blade control lever is engaged.
Check the fuel level and add fresh gasoline if necessary. Inspect the spark plug for damage or wear, and clean or replace it if needed. Ensure the air filter is clean and not clogged.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired height setting, ensuring all wheels are set to the same level.
The blade should be sharpened after every 20-25 hours of use or at least once every mowing season. Dull blades can lead to uneven cuts and can damage the lawn.
Regular maintenance includes changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, inspecting and replacing the spark plug, and sharpening or replacing the blade.
Ensure the mower is off and cool. Tilt the mower to access the deck. Use a hose to rinse off grass clippings and debris. For stubborn build-up, use a brush or scraper.
Use SAE 30 weight oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for colder conditions. Always check the owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommendations.
Disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the old spark plug using a spark plug socket. Install the new spark plug and reconnect the spark plug wire, ensuring it is secure.
Uncut patches can be due to a dull blade, incorrect cutting height, or mowing too quickly. Ensure the blade is sharp and set at the correct height, and reduce speed if necessary.
Ensure the blade is sharp and the underside of the deck is clean. Mow when the grass is dry, and avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass blade length at a time.
