Installing Batteries (Figure 2) The SB-300 takes two rechargeable Ni-MH (HR03) AAA batteries or two alkaline (LR03) AAA batteries.

1 Open the battery-chamber lid (q).

2 Insert the batteries in the orientation shown and close the battery-chamber lid (w).

Replacing Batteries Replace both batteries at the same time, using fresh batteries of the same brand and type. Do not mix old and new batteries or batteries of diff erent types or makes.

Attaching the Speedlight (Figure 3) 1 Turn off the camera and SB-300.

2 Confi rm that the mounting foot lock lever is fl ipped to the left (q).

3 Slide the mounting foot all the way into the camera accessory shoe (w).

4 Rotate the mounting foot lock lever to the right until it clicks into place pointing to LOCK (e).

D Cameras with Auto Pop-up Flash Units Turn the SB-300 on when it is mounted on a camera with a built-in, auto pop-up ash unit. When the SB-300 is o , the cameras built-in ash may pop-up automatically and strike the SB-300. The SB-300 can be removed to prevent it ring when not required.

D Continuous Use If the ash is red many times in quick succession, the recycling time may be extended to prevent the ash overheating. Normal recycling times will be restored when the ash cools.

Removing the Speedlight (Figure 4) 1 Turn off the camera and SB-300.

2 Flip the mounting foot lock lever to the left (q) and slide the SB-300 from the camera (w). Do not use force; if the unit can not be removed from the camera, rotate the mounting foot lock lever all the way to the left and then slide the unit from the camera.

Flash Control Mode i-TTL Flash Control

When the SB-300 is mounted on a camera, fl ash output is adjusted automatically using i-TTL fl ash control. The eff ective range is 0.6 20 m (2 66 ft.), but note that range varies with sensitiv- ity (ISO equivalency) and aperture.

Manual Flash Control When the SB-300 is mounted on a camera, manual fl ash control can be enabled by selecting Manual as the fl ash control mode for the optional fl ash unit in the camera menus. Manual fl ash control is not available with D3-series, D2-series, D200, D80, D70-series, D50, and F6 cameras.

Bounce-Flash Photography (Figure 5) The fl ash head can be rotated to bounce (refl ect) light from a ceiling or wall, dispersing the light from the fl ash to make shadows less harsh, reduce glare from hair, skin and clothing, and prevent foreground objects being washed out or overexposed. Choose a bounce angle ac- cording to the distance to the subject and between the camera and the refl ecting surface.

Product Care Cleaning

Use a blower to remove dust and lint, then wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. After using the SB-300 at the beach or seaside, wipe off sand or salt with a cloth lightly dampened in distilled water and then dry the product thoroughly by wiping it gently with a dry cloth.

The SB-300 contains a large amount of precision electronics. Do not subject to shock or vi- bration.

Storage To prevent mold or mildew, store the SB-300 in a dry, well-ventilated area. If it is to be placed in storage for two weeks or more, remove the batteries to prevent damage caused by the batteries leaking. Take the device from storage about once a month and fi re it two or three times to keep the condenser inside the unit from deteriorating. Do not store the device with insecticides or in locations that: are in the vicinity of equipment that produces strong electromagnetic fi elds, or are exposed to extremely high temperatures that could cause product malfunction, such as

next to a heater or in an enclosed vehicle on a hot day

Use Sudden changes in temperature, such as those that occur when entering or leaving a heated

building on a cold day, can cause condensation inside the device. To prevent condensa- tion, place the device in a plastic bag or other sealed container before exposing it to sudden changes in temperature.

Do not use the device in the vicinity of equipment that produces strong electromagnetic fi elds, such as transmission towers or high-voltage power lines. Failure to observe this precau- tion could cause product malfunction.

Batteries The large amounts of current used by the fl ash may result in rechargeable batteries becom-

ing unusable before reaching the manufacturers stated recharge/discharge limit. When replacing the batteries, turn the product off and insert the replacement batteries in

the correct orientation. Dirt on the battery terminals can interrupt the fl ow of current. Clean dirt from the terminals

before inserting the batteries. After being fi red multiple times in quick succession, the fl ash may stop fi ring to allow the bat-

teries to cool. Normal operation can be resumed once the batteries have cooled suffi ciently. Batteries tend to lose capacity at low temperatures, recover lost voltage when allowed to

rest, and slowly discharge when not in use. Be sure to check the battery level before use and replace the batteries before they are fully discharged.

Do not store batteries in locations subject to high temperatures or high humidity. For information on handling and recharging rechargeable batteries, see the documentation

provided by the manufacturers of the batteries and the battery charger. Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. Failure to observe this precaution

could cause the batteries to rupture.

Used batteries are a valuable resource; to protect the environment, recycle used batteries in accord with local regulations.

Appendix Standby Mode: Conserving Battery Power

If no operations are performed for 40 s or more, the SB-300 will automatically power down to conserve the batteries (standby mode). When mounted on a camera, the SB-300 will also power down when the camera standby timer expires. Normal operation can be restored using the SB-300 power switch or by pressing the camera shutter-release button halfway.

Installation des accumulateurs/piles (Figure 2) Le SB-300 fonctionne avec deux accumulateurs Ni-MH (HR03) AAA ou deux piles alcalines (LR03) AAA.

1 Ouvrez le couvercle du logement pour accumulateurs/piles (q).

2 Insrez les accumulateurs/piles dans le sens indiqu et fermez le couvercle du logement (w).

Changement des accumulateurs/piles Changez les deux accumulateurs/piles simultanment en les remplaant par des accumula- teurs/piles neufs de la mme marque et du mme type. Nutilisez pas simultanment des accu- mulateurs/piles usags et neufs ou des accumulateurs/piles de marques ou de types diff rents.

Installation du ash (Figure 3) 1 Mettez hors tension lappareil photo et le SB-300.

2 Vrifi ez que le levier de verrouillage du sabot de fi xation est positionn gauche (q).

3 Faites glisser le sabot de fi xation jusquau bout de la griff e fl ash de lappareil photo (w).

4 Dplacez le levier de verrouillage du sabot de fi xation vers la droite jusqu ce quil mette un clic ; il est alors situ face LOCK (e).

D Appareils photo quips de fl ashes ouverture automatique Mettez le SB-300 sous tension lorsquil est install sur un appareil photo quip dun ash intgr ouverture automatique. Lorsque le SB-300 est hors tension, le ash intgr de lappareil photo peut sortir automatiquement et heurter le SB-300. Retirez le SB-300 pour viter quil ne se dclenche lorsquil nest pas ncessaire.

D Utilisation continue Si le ash se dclenche plusieurs fois rapidement, le temps de recyclage peut tre rallong a n demp- cher la surchau e. Le temps de recyclage retrouve sa dure normale une fois le ash refroidi.

Dsinstallation du ash (Figure 4) 1 Mettez hors tension lappareil photo et le SB-300.

2 Dplacez le levier de verrouillage du sabot de fi xation vers la gauche (q) et faites glisser le SB-300 pour le retirer de lappareil photo (w). Ne forcez pas ; si vous ne parvenez pas retirer le fl ash de lappareil photo, tournez le levier de verrouillage fond gauche, puis faites glisser le fl ash pour le retirer de lappareil photo.

Contrle du ash manuel Lorsque le SB-300 est install sur un appareil photo, vous pouvez activer le contrle du fl ash manuel en slectionnant Manuel comme mode de contrle du fl ash optionnel dans les me- nus de lappareil photo. Le contrle du fl ash manuel nest pas disponible avec les appareils photo de la gamme D3, gamme D2, D200, D80, gamme D70, D50 et F6.

Flash indirect (Figure 5) Vous pouvez pivoter la tte du fl ash afi n de refl ter la lumire sur un plafond ou un mur. Cela permet de la rendre plus diff use, afi n dadoucir les ombres et de rduire la brillance des che- veux, de la peau et des vtements et dempcher que les objets situs au premier plan ne soient surexposs. Choisissez langle dinclinaison en fonction de la distance au sujet et de la distance sparant lappareil photo de la surface rfl chissante.

Entretien

Nettoyage Utilisez une souffl ette pour retirer la poussire et les peluches, puis essuyez dlicatement

laide dun chiff on sec et doux. En cas dutilisation du SB-300 la plage ou en bord de mer, retirez le sable et le sel laide dun chiff on lgrement imbib deau distille, puis schez le produit mticuleusement laide dun chiff on sec.

Le SB-300 comporte de trs nombreuses pices lectroniques de prcision. Ne lui faites pas subir de chocs et ne le soumettez pas des vibrations.

Rangement Pour viter la formation de moisissure ou de rouille, rangez le SB-300 dans un endroit sec et bien ar. Si vous avez lintention de ne pas lutiliser pendant deux semaines ou plus, retirez les accumulateurs/piles pour viter de lendommager en cas de fuite. Sortez le fl ash de son rangement une fois par mois environ et dclenchez-le deux ou trois fois pour viter que le condensateur situ lintrieur ne se dtriore. Ne rangez pas le fl ash avec des insecticides ou dans des endroits qui sont: proximit dquipements gnrant des champs magntiques puissants ou exposs des tempratures extrmement leves pouvant entraner le dysfonctionnement

du produit, comme prs dun radiateur ou dans un vhicule ferm en plein soleil

Utilisation Les brusques changements de temprature, qui peuvent se produire par exemple en hiver

lorsque vous entrez dans un endroit chauff ou en sortez, peuvent entraner la prsence de condensation lintrieur du produit. Pour empcher cette formation de condensation, enveloppez le produit dans un sac plastique ou un autre rcipient hermtique avant de lex- poser de brusques changements de temprature.

Nutilisez pas le produit proximit dquipements gnrant des champs magntiques puis- sants, comme des pylnes de transmission ou des lignes haute tension. Vous risquez sinon de provoquer le dysfonctionnement du produit.

Accumulateurs/piles Le fl ash ncessitant une grande quantit de courant, il se peut que les accumulateurs devien-

nent inutilisables avant datteindre la limite de charge/dcharge indique par le fabricant. Lorsque vous changez les accumulateurs/piles, mettez le produit hors tension et insrez les

nouveaux accumulateurs/piles dans le bon sens. Toute salet prsente sur les contacts des accumulateurs/piles peut interrompre le fl ux du

courant. Nettoyez-les avant linsertion. Aprs avoir t dclench plusieurs fois rapidement, le fl ash risque de ne plus mettre dclair

afi n de permettre aux accumulateurs/piles de refroidir. Il fonctionnera nouveau normale- ment une fois que les accumulateurs/piles auront suffi samment refroidi.

Les accumulateurs/piles ont tendance perdre leur capacit basse temprature, retrouver leur tension aprs une priode dinutilisation et se dcharger lentement lorsquils ne sont pas utiliss. Veillez vrifi er le niveau de charge des accumulateurs/piles avant toute utilisa- tion et changez-les avant quils ne soient entirement dchargs.

Ne rangez pas les accumulateurs/piles dans des endroits exposs de hautes tempratures ou une humidit leve.

Pour en savoir plus sur la manipulation et le chargement des accumulateurs, reportez-vous la documentation fournie par les fabricants des accumulateurs et du chargeur daccumulateur.

Nessayez pas de recharger des piles non rechargeables. Les piles risquent sinon de se casser.

Recyclage des

accumulateurs

Les accumulateurs usags demeurent une ressource prcieuse. Pour prot- ger l'environnement, veuillez les recycler conformment aux rglementa- tions en vigueur dans votre pays.

Annexe Mode veille : conservation de la charge des accumulateurs/piles

Si aucune opration nest eff ectue pendant 40 s ou plus, le SB-300 steint automatiquement pour conserver la charge des accumulateurs/piles (mode veille). Lorsquil est install sur un appareil photo, le SB-300 steint galement une fois que lappareil photo entre en mode veille. Vous pouvez rtablir le fonctionnement normal laide du commutateur marche-arrt du SB-300 ou en appuyant mi-course sur le dclencheur de lappareil photo.

Einsetzen der Akkus oder Batterien (Abbildung 2) Das SB-300 wird von zwei Ni-MH-Akkus (HR03) oder zwei Alkali-Mangan-Batterien (LR03) in Micro-Gre (AAA) mit Strom versorgt.

1 ff nen Sie die Batteriefachabdeckung (q).

2 Setzen Sie die Akkus/Batterien wie abgebildet ein und schlieen Sie die Batteriefachabdeckung (w).

Austauschen von Akkus oder Batterien Ersetzen Sie immer nur beide Akkus bzw. Batterien gleichzeitig und verwenden Sie neue Batte- rien bzw. voll geladene Akkus derselben Marke und desselben Typs. Verwenden Sie auf keinen Fall alte und neue Akkus/Batterien oder solche unterschiedlicher Marken bzw. unterschiedli- chen Typs gemeinsam.

Anbringen des Blitzgerts (Abbildung 3) 1 Schalten Sie die Kamera und das SB-300 aus.

2 Vergewissern Sie sich, dass der Blitzfu-Fixierhebel nach links gedreht ist (q).

3 Schieben Sie den Blitzfu vollstndig in den Zubehrschuh der Kamera (w).

4 Drehen Sie den Blitzfu-Fixierhebel nach rechts, bis er bei der Position LOCK einrastet (e).

D Kameras mit automatisch herausklappendem Blitzgert Schalten Sie das SB-300 ein, wenn Sie es auf einer Kamera mit einem eingebauten, selbststndig he- rausklappenden Blitzgert montieren. Wenn das SB-300 ausgeschaltet ist, net sich das eingebaute Blitzgert der Kamera mglicherweise automatisch und stt an das SB-300. Wenn das SB-300 nicht bentigt wird, knnen Sie es abnehmen, um das Znden zu verhindern.

D Dauereinsatz Wenn das Blitzgert viele Male in schneller Folge gezndet wird, verlngert sich unter Umstnden die Ladezeit, um ein berhitzen des Blitzgerts zu verhindern. Sobald das Blitzgert abgekhlt ist, ldt es wieder in der normalen Zeit auf.

Abnehmen des Blitzgerts (Abbildung 4) 1 Schalten Sie Kamera und SB-300 aus.

2 Drehen Sie den Blitzfu-Fixierhebel nach links (q) und ziehen Sie den SB-300 aus dem Zu- behrschuh der Kamera (w). Wenden Sie keine Gewalt an; falls sich das Blitzgert nicht von der Kamera abnehmen lsst. Drehen Sie den Blitzfu-Fixierhebel nochmals ganz nach links und nehmen Sie dann das Gert von der Kamera ab.

Blitzbelichtungssteuerung i-TTL-Blitzbelichtungssteuerung

Wenn das SB-300 auf einer Kamera montiert ist, wird die Blitzleistung automatisch von der i-TTL-Blitzbelichtungssteuerung geregelt. Die eff ektive Blitzreichweite betrgt zwischen 0,6 und 20 m; beachten Sie jedoch, dass die Reichweite von der Lichtempfi ndlichkeit (ISO-Wert) und der Blendeneinstellung abhngt.

Manuelle Blitzbelichtungssteuerung Wenn das SB-300 auf einer Kamera montiert ist, lsst es sich auf manuelle Blitzbelichtungssteu- erung umschalten, indem man in den Kameramens die Option Manuell als Blitzbelichtungs- steuerung fr das optionale Blitzgert whlt. Die manuelle Blitzbelichtungssteuerung ist mit fol- genden Kameramodellen nicht verfgbar: D3-Serie, D2-Serie, D200, D80, D70-Serie, D50 und F6.

Indirektes Blitzen (Abbildung 5) Der Blitzrefl ektor lsst sich nach oben schwenken, damit das Blitzlicht von einer Decke oder Wand refl ektiert wird. Die strkere Streuung des Lichts lsst Schatten weicher werden, verrin- gert die Refl exe auf Haaren, Haut und Kleidung, und verhindert, dass Objekte im Vordergrund berbelichtet werden bzw. wie ausgewaschen erscheinen. Whlen Sie einen Neigungswin- kel, der zum Hauptobjektabstand und der Entfernung zwischen Kamera und refl ektierender Flche passt.

Reinigung Verwenden Sie einen Blasebalg, um Staub und Flusen zu entfernen, und wischen Sie das Gert

anschlieend mit einem wei chen, trockenen Tuch ab. Wenn Sie das SB-300 am Strand oder der Kste verwenden, wischen Sie anschlieend Sand oder Salz mit einem mit destilliertem Wasser leicht angefeuchteten Tuch ab und trocknen Sie das Gert, indem Sie es vorsichtig mit einem trockenen Tuch abreiben.

Das SB-300 enthlt eine groe Menge an Przisionselektronik. Setzen Sie es keinen Sten oder Vibrationen aus.

Aufbewahrung Bewahren Sie das SB-300 an einem trockenen, gut belfteten Platz auf, um Schimmelbildung zu vermeiden. Falls es zwei Wochen oder lnger nicht verwendet wird, sollten Sie die Akkus/Batterien entnehmen, um Schden durch ein Auslaufen der Zellen zu vermeiden. Nehmen Sie das Blitzgert etwa einmal im Monat zur Hand und lsen Sie zwei oder drei Blitze aus, damit der Kondensator im Gert in einem guten Zustand bleibt. Lagern Sie das Produkt nicht gemeinsam mit Insektengiften und nicht an Orten ... in unmittelbarer Nhe von Gerten, die starke elektromagnetische Wellen ausstrahlen mit sehr hohen Temperaturen, die das Gert beschdigen knnten, wie zum Beispiel in der Nhe

einer Heizung oder in einem geschlossenen Auto an einem heien Tag

Verwendung Pltzliche Temperaturnderungen, wie etwa bei Betreten oder Verlassen eines beheizten

Gebudes an einem kalten Tag, knnen zu Kondensation im Inneren des Gerts fhren. Um Kondensation zu vermeiden, stecken Sie das Gert ein eine Plastiktte oder ein anderes ver- siegeltes Behltnis, bevor Sie es pltzlichen Temperaturnderungen aussetzen.

Verwenden Sie das Gert nicht in der Nhe von Anlagen, die starke elektromagnetische Fel- der erzeugen, wie etwa Funkmasten oder Hochspannungsleitungen. Eine Nichtbeachtung dieser Vorsichtsmanahme kann zu Fehlfunktionen des Gerts fhren.

Akkus bzw. Batterien Aufgrund der groen Mengen elektrischen Stroms, die beim Blitzen verbraucht werden, kann

die Lebensdauer (Anzahl der Wiederaufl adungen) von Akkus mglicherweise geringer aus- fallen, als vom Akkuhersteller angegeben.

Schalten sie zum Austauschen der Akkus bzw. Batterien das Gert aus und setzen Sie die Ersatzzellen in der korrekten Ausrichtung ein.

Eine Verschmutzung der Kontakte an den Akkus/Batterien kann den elektrischen Strom un- terbrechen. Reinigen Sie die Kontakte, bevor Sie die Akkus bzw. Batterien einsetzen.

Wenn das Blitzgert mehrere Male in schneller Folge ausgelst wurde, werden weitere Blitz- auslsungen mglicherweise unterbrochen, um ein Abkhlen der Akkus/Batterien zu er- mglichen. Der Betrieb wird fortgesetzt, sobald die Akkus/Batterien ausreichend abgekhlt sind.

Die Akku- bzw. Batterieleistung nimmt bei niedrigen Temperaturen ab, erholt sich jedoch bei normaler Temperatur wieder. Bei Nichtgebrauch fi ndet eine langsame Entladung statt. berprfen Sie vor dem Gebrauch den Ladestand und ersetzen Sie die Akkus bzw. Batterien, bevor sie vollstndig entleert sind.

Bewahren Sie die Akkus/Batterien nicht an Orten mit hohen Temperaturen oder hoher Luft- feuchtigkeit auf.

Im Benutzerhandbuch zu Ihren Akkus und zum Akkuladegert fi nden Sie weiterfhrende Informationen zur Verwendung und zum Aufl aden der Akkus.

Laden Sie niemals Batterien (Primrzellen) auf, da diese nicht wiederaufl adbar sind. Bei Nicht- beachtung dieser Vorsichtsmanahme knnen die Batterien explodieren.

Anhang Ruhezustand: Strom sparen

Wenn lnger als 40 Sekunden keine Bedienvorgnge stattfi nden, wechselt das SB-300 auto- matisch in den Ruhezustand, um Strom zu sparen. Ist das SB-300 an einer Kamera angebracht, schaltet es zudem ab, wenn die Kamera selbst in den Ruhezustand geht. Das Blitzgert lsst sich wieder aktivieren, indem man den Ein-/Ausschalter am SB-300 benutzt oder den Kamera- Auslser bis zum ersten Druckpunkt drckt.
