English Thank you for your purchase of an MB-D17 multi-power battery

pack for use with all Nikon digital cameras that list the MB-D17

as a compatible accessory in the camera manual. The MB-D17

takes one EN-EL15, EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a, or EN-EL18 recharge-

able battery or eight AA batteries (alkaline, Ni-MH, or lithium)

and features controls for taking pictures in tall (portrait) orien-

tation: shutter-release, AF-ON, and Fn buttons, a multi selector,

and main and sub-command dials. Before use, read these in-

structions and the camera manual.

Using the Optional BL-5 Battery-Chamber Cover A BL-5 battery-chamber cover (avail-

able separately) is required when using

EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a, or EN-EL18 bat-

teries.

Precautions for Use The MB-D17 is for use with compatible cameras only.

Do not use with batteries and battery holders not recom-

mended in this manual.

To prevent electrical shorts caused by metal objects touch-

ing the power terminals, replace the contact cap when the

MB-D17 is not in use.

When not inserted in the battery pack, battery holders or bat-

teries with optional BL-5 battery chamber covers attached

must be placed in their cases or have the batteries removed to

prevent electrical shorts caused by contact with other metal

objects.

The memory card access lamp may light when the MB-D17

is attached to or removed from the camera; this is not mal-

function.

Should you notice smoke or an unusual smell or noise from

the battery pack, discontinue use immediately. After remov-

ing the batteries, take the device to the retailer or a Nikon-

authorized service representative for inspection.

The MB-D17 is not equipped with a power switch. Use the

camera power switch to turn the power on or o .

The MS-D12EN is inserted in the MB-D17 at shipment. See

Inserting Batteries for information on removing the battery

holder.

Using an AC Adapter and Power Connector The optional EH-5b AC adapter and EP-5B power connector

provide a reliable power source when the camera is used for

extended periods. To use an AC adapter with the MB-D17, in-

sert the EP-5B into the MS-D12EN battery holder as described

in The EP-5B Power Connector (below) and then connect

the EH-5b as described in the documentation provided with

the EP-5B.

The Fn and AF-ON Buttons

To choose the role played by these controls, select Assign MB-D17

buttons in the Group f (Controls) of the camera Custom Settings

menu. See the camera manual for more information.

Other Controls

The MB-D17 shutter-release button, multi selector, and main

and sub-command dials perform the same functions as the

corresponding controls on the camera, with the exception that

the multi selector can not be used to activate the standby timer

regardless of the option selected for Multi selector in Group f

(Controls) of the camera Custom Settings menu. See the cam-

era manual for more information.

The MB-D17 Control Lock

The control lock (Figure A- !5) locks the controls on the MB-D17

to prevent unintended use. Before using these controls to take

photographs in vertical (portrait) orientation, release the lock

as shown.

The control lock is not a power switch. Use the camera power

switch to turn the camera on and o .

Using the Battery Pack Attaching the Battery Pack

Before attaching the battery pack, be sure that the camera is

o and that the MB-D17 control lock (Figure A-!5) is in the L

position.

1 Remove the contact cap (Figure A- !1) from the battery pack.

2 The contacts for the MB-D17 are in the base of the camera,

where they are protected by a contact cover. Remove the

contact cover as shown in Figure B-q and place it in the

contact cover holder on the MB-D17 (Figure B- w).

3 Position the MB-D17, keeping the MB-D17 mounting screw

(Figure C- w) aligned with the camera tripod socket (Figure

C- q) and tighten the attachment wheel by rotating it in the

direction shown by the LOCK arrow (Figure D). There is no

need to remove the battery from the camera before connect-

ing the MB-D17. At default settings, the battery inserted in

the camera will be used only after the battery in the MB-D17

is exhausted. The Battery order option in the camera setup

menu can be used to change the order in which the batteries

are used.

Be sure to place the camera contact cover in the contact

cover holder and to keep the MB-D17 contact cap in a safe

place to prevent loss.

A PB-6D and PK-13 auto extension ring are required when us-

ing PB-6 bellows focusing attachment with the MB-D17.

Removing the Battery Pack

To remove the MB-D17, turn the camera o and set the control

lock on the MB-D17 to L, then loosen the attachment wheel by

rotating it in the direction opposite to that shown by the LOCK

arrow and remove the MB-D17.

Inserting Batteries

The MB-D17 can be used with one EN-EL15, EN-EL18b,

EN-EL18a, or EN-EL18 rechargeable battery or with eight AA

batteries. Before inserting batteries, be sure that the camera is

o and that the MB-D17 control lock is in the L position.

1 Unlatch the MB-D17 by rotating the battery-chamber latch to

and remove the battery holder (Figure E).

2 Ready the batteries as described below.

EN-EL15: Matching the indentations on the battery to the pro-

jections on the MS-D12EN holder, insert the battery with the

arrow () on the battery toward the battery holder power

terminals (Figure F- q). Press the battery lightly downward

and slide it in the direction of the arrow until the power ter-

minals click into place (Figure F- w).

EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a, or EN-EL18: If the battery release on the

optional BL-5 battery-chamber cover is positioned so that

the arrow is visible, slide the battery release to cover the

arrow (Figure G-q). Insert the two projections on the bat-

tery into the matching slots on the BL-5 (Figure G-w) and

con rm that the battery release has slid aside to reveal the

arrow (Figure G-e).

AA batteries: Place eight AA batteries in the MS-D12 battery

holder as shown in Figure H, making sure that the batteries

are in the correct orientation.

The EP-5B Power Connector When using the EP-5B power connector, insert it into the

MS-D12EN holder with the arrow () on the connector

toward the battery holder power terminals (Figure I- q).

Press the connector lightly downward and slide it in the

direction of the arrow until the power terminals click into

place (Figure I- w). Open the holder power connector

cover and pass the EP-5B power cable through the open-

ing (Figure I- e).

3 Insert the battery holder or battery in the MB-D17 and latch

the battery-chamber cover (Figure J). Make sure the holder

or battery is inserted before turning the latch.

4 Turn the camera on and check the battery level in the control

panel or view nder as described in the camera manual. If the

camera does not turn on, check that the battery is correctly

inserted.

For more information, see the camera manual. If you are using

AA batteries, use the MB-D17 battery type option in the cam-

era setup menu to specify the battery type. Battery status can be

viewed using the Battery info option in the camera setup menu.

Removing Batteries

Be careful not to drop batteries or the holder.

1 Unlatch the MB-D17 by rotating the battery-chamber latch to

and remove the battery or battery holder (Figure E).

2 Remove the battery or batteries from the holder or BL-5 bat-

tery-chamber cover.

EN-EL15: While pressing the holder PUSH button, slide the

battery toward the button. The battery can then be removed

as shown.

The procedure for removing the EP-5B power connector is

the same as that for the EN-EL15.

EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a, or EN-EL18: Slide the battery release in the

direction indicated by the arrow ( ) and remove the BL-5.

AA batteries: Remove the batteries as shown. Be careful not

to drop the batteries when removing them from the holder.

EN-EL15, EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a, and EN-EL18 Batteries The performance of EN-EL15, EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a, and

EN-EL18 batteries drops at temperatures below about 10 C

(50 F). Be sure the battery is fully charged and keep a warm

spare battery on hand ready to exchange as necessary. Cold

batteries may recover some of their charge when warmed.

AA Batteries Due to their limited capacity, AA alkaline batteries should be

used only when no other alternative is available.

The capacity of AA batteries varies with make and storage

conditions and may in some instances be extremely low; in

some cases, AA batteries may su er a drop in capacity or

cease to function before their expiry date. Note that the ca-

pacity of AA batteries may drop at temperatures below 20 C

(68 F). Use is not recommended at low temperatures.

Warranty Terms

Your Nikon equipment is guaranteed against any manufacturing defects for one

full year from the date of original purchase. If during this period of guarantee the

product proves defective due to improper material or workmanship, our authorized

service network within the sales territory of Nikon Europe B.V. will, without charge

for labor and parts, repair the product in the terms and conditions set as below.

Nikon reserves the right (at its sole discretion) to replace or repair the product.

Verwendung eines Netzadapters und eines Akkufacheinsatzes Der optionale Netzadapter EH-5b und der Akkufacheinsatz

EP-5B stellen eine zuverlssige Stromquelle beim Einsatz der

Kamera ber eine lngere Betriebszeit dar. Um einen Netz-

adapter mit dem MB-D17 zu verwenden, schieben Sie den

EP-5B in den Akkuhalter MS-D12EN, wie im Abschnitt Der

Akkufacheinsatz EP-5B (siehe nachfolgend) beschrieben,

und schlieen Sie dann den EH-5b wie in der dem EP-5B bei-

liegenden Dokumentation beschrieben an.

Die Fn- und AF-ON-Tasten

Benutzen Sie im Kameramen fr die Individualfunktionen in

der Gruppe f (Bedienelemente) die Option Tastenbelegung

am MB-D17, um diese Tasten mit der gewnschten Funktion zu

belegen. Nhere Informationen nden Sie im Kamerahandbuch.

Weitere Bedienelemente

Der Auslser, der Multifunktionswhler und das hintere und vor-

dere Einstellrad am MB-D17 haben dieselben Funktionen wie

die entsprechenden Bedienelemente an der Kamera. Mit einer

Ausnahme: Der Multifunktionswhler kann nicht zum Beenden

des Standbys (Starten der Standby-Vorlaufzeit) benutzt werden,

egal welche Einstellung fr die Option Multifunktionswhler

im Kameramen fr die Individualfunktionen in der Gruppe f

(Bedienelemente) gewhlt ist. Nhere Informationen nden Sie

im Kamerahandbuch.

Die Bediensperre des MB-D17

Die Bediensperre (Abbildung A- !5) sperrt die Bedienelemente

am MB-D17, um eine unbeabsichtigte Benutzung zu verhin-

dern. Entriegeln Sie die Bediensperre, wie abgebildet, bevor

Sie diese Bedienelemente zum Fotogra eren im Hochformat

verwenden.

Die Bediensperre ist kein Ein-/Ausschalter. Verwenden Sie den

Ein-/Ausschalter der Kamera, um diese ein- oder auszuschalten.

Verwenden des Multifunktionshandgriff s Anbringen des Multifunktionshandgriff s

Stellen Sie vor dem Anbringen des Multifunktionshandgri s

sicher, dass die Kamera ausgeschaltet ist und sich die Bedien-

sperre am MB-D17 (Abbildung A-!5) in der Position L be ndet.

1 Nehmen Sie die Kontaktabdeckung (Abbildung A- !1) vom

Multifunktionshandgri ab.

2 Die Kontakte fr den MB-D17 be nden sich am Boden der

Kamera, an dem sie durch eine Kontaktabdeckung geschtzt

werden. Nehmen Sie die Kontaktabdeckung wie in Abbil-

dung B- q dargestellt ab und legen Sie sie in den Kontaktab-

deckungshalter des MB-D17 (Abbildung B- w).

3 Positionieren Sie den MB-D17 so, dass seine Befestigungs-

schraube (Abbildung C- w) am Stativgewinde der Kamera

(Abbildung C- q) ausgerichtet ist, und ziehen Sie das Befes-

tigungsrad fest, indem Sie es in die durch den LOCK-Pfeil (Ab-

bildung D) dargestellte Richtung drehen. Vor dem Anschlie-

en des MB-D17 muss der Akku nicht aus der Kamera ge-

nommen werden. Bei Standardeinstellung greift die Kamera

erst dann auf den Kameraakku zu, wenn die Akkus/Batterien

im MB-D17 entladen ist. Mit der Option Akkureihenfolge

im Systemmen der Kamera kann die Reihenfolge festgelegt

werden, in der die Akkus/Batterien benutzt werden.

Denken Sie daran, die Kamera-Kontaktabdeckung in den

Kontaktabdeckungshalter zu legen und die Kontaktabde-

ckung des MB-D17 an einem sicheren Ort aufzubewahren,

damit Sie sie nicht verlieren.

Automatik-Zwischenringe vom Typ PB-6D und PK-13 sind

erforderlich, wenn das Balgengert PB-6 und der MB-D17

gemeinsam verwendet werden.

Abnehmen des Multifunktionshandgriff s

Schalten Sie die Kamera aus, wenn Sie den MB-D17 von der

Kamera abnehmen wollen, und stellen Sie die Bediensperre

des MB-D17 auf L, lsen Sie anschlieend das Befestigungsrad,

indem Sie es in die dem mit LOCK beschrifteten Pfeil entgegen-

gesetzte Richtung drehen, und nehmen Sie den MB-D17 ab.

Einsetzen von Akkus oder Batterien

Der MB-D17 kann mit einem Akku EN-EL15, EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a

oder EN-EL18 oder mit acht Akkus/Batterien in Mignon-Gre

diensperre des MB-D17 auf L steht.

1 Entriegeln Sie das Akku-/Batteriefach des MB-D17, indem Sie

die Verriegelung auf drehen, und nehmen Sie den Akku-

oder Batteriehalter heraus (Abbildung E).

2 Bereiten Sie den Akku bzw. die Akkus oder die Batterien wie

unten beschrieben vor.

EN-EL15: Richten Sie die Vertiefungen des Akkus an den

Ausbuchtungen des Halters MS-D12EN aus, und setzen Sie

den Akku mit dem Pfeil () in Richtung der Kontakte ein

(Abbildung F- q). Drcken Sie den Akku leicht nach unten

und schieben Sie ihn in Pfeilrichtung, bis die Kontakte fr die

Spannungsversorgung einrasten (Abbildung F- w).

EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a oder EN-EL18: Wenn die Akku-Entriege-

lung an der optionalen Akkufachabdeckung BL-5 so aus-

gerichtet ist, dass der Pfeil sichtbar ist, schieben Sie die

Akku-Entriegelung ber den Pfeil (Abbildung G- q). Setzen

Sie den Akku mit seinen zwei Ausbuchtungen in die passen-

den Fcher an der BL-5 (Abbildung G- w) ein und berprfen

Sie, ob die Akku-Entriegelung so zur Seite geschoben wurde,

dass der Pfeil sichtbar ist (Abbildung G- e).

Mignon-Akkus/Batterien: Legen Sie acht Mignon-Akkus/Bat-

terien (Gre AA) in den Halter MS-D12 ein, wie in Abbildung

H gezeigt. Achten Sie dabei auf die korrekte Ausrichtung der

Akkus/Batterien.

Der Akkufacheinsatz EP-5B Wenn Sie den Akkufacheinsatz EP-5B verwenden, schieben

Sie ihn so in den Halter MS-D12EN, dass der Pfeil () auf

dem Akkufacheinsatz in Richtung der Stromkontakte des

Halters zeigt (Abbildung I- q). Drcken Sie den Akkufach-

einsatz leicht nach unten und schieben Sie ihn in Pfeilrich-

tung, bis die Kontakte einrasten (Abbildung I- w). nen

Sie am Halter die Abdeckung fr den Akkufacheinsatz und

fhren Sie das Stromkabel des EP-5B durch die nung

(Abbildung I- e).

3 Setzen Sie den Batterie-/Akkuhalter oder die Batterie/den

Akku in den MB-D17 ein und verriegeln Sie die Batterie-/Ak-

kufachabdeckung (Abbildung J). Vergewissern Sie sich, dass

der Halter oder Akku eingeschoben ist, bevor Sie die Verrie-

gelung drehen.

4 Schalten Sie die Kamera ein und berprfen Sie die Akku-/

Batteriekapazitt auf dem Display oder im Sucher, wie im Ka-

merahandbuch beschrieben. Falls sich die Kamera nicht ein-

schalten lsst, berprfen Sie, ob der Akku bzw. die Akkus/

Batterien korrekt eingelegt wurden.

Weitere Informationen nden Sie im Kamerahandbuch. Ver-

wenden Sie bitte beim Einsatz von Mignon-Akkus/Batterien

(AA) die Option Akku-/Batterietyp (MB-D17) im Systemme-

n der Kamera, um den Typ der Akkus/Batterien einzugeben.

Der Status der Akkus/Batterien lsst sich im Systemmen der

Kamera mithilfe der Option Akkudiagnose anzeigen.

Herausnehmen der Batterien bzw. der Akkus

Geben Sie acht, die Akkus/Batterien oder den Halter nicht fallen

zu lassen.

1 Entriegeln Sie das Fach des MB-D17 durch Drehen der Ver-

riegelung auf , und ziehen Sie den Halter bzw. den Akku

heraus (Abbildung E).

2 Nehmen Sie den Akku oder die Akkus/Batterien aus dem Hal-

ter bzw. trennen Sie den Akku von der Akkufachabdeckung

BL-5.

EN-EL15: Halten Sie die PUSH-Taste auf dem Halter gedrckt

und schieben Sie den Akku in Richtung der Taste. Anschlie-

end kann der Akku wie dargestellt herausgenommen wer-

den.

Der Akkufacheinsatz EP-5B wird auf die gleiche Weise ent-

nommen wie der EN-EL15.

EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a oder EN-EL18: Schieben Sie die Akku-

Entriegelung in die vom Pfeil ( ) angezeigte Richtung und

nehmen Sie die BL-5 ab.

Mignon-Akkus/Batterien: Nehmen Sie die Akkus/Batterien wie

dargestellt heraus. Gehen Sie vorsichtig vor, damit die Akkus/

Batterien bei der Herausnahme aus dem Halter nicht hinun-

terfallen.

Akkus EN-EL15, EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a und EN-EL18 Die Leistungsfhigkeit der Akkus EN-EL15, EN-EL18b,

Autres commandes

Le dclencheur, le slecteur multidirectionnel et les molettes de

commande principale et secondaire de la MB-D17 remplissent

les mmes fonctions que les commandes correspondantes sur

lappareil photo, sauf que le slecteur multidirectionnel ne per-

met pas dactiver la temporisation du mode veille, quelle que

soit loption slectionne pour Slecteur multidirectionnel

dans le groupe f ( Commandes ) du menu Rglages person-

naliss de lappareil photo. Reportez-vous au manuel de lappa-

reil photo pour en savoir plus.

Le verrouillage des commandes de la MB-D17

Le verrouillage des commandes (Figure A- !5) empche toute

utilisation involontaire des commandes de la MB-D17. Avant

dutiliser ces commandes pour prendre des photos en cadrage

vertical, dverrouillez les commandes comme indiqu.

Le verrouillage des commandes ne coupe pas lalimentation.

Servez-vous du commutateur marche-arrt de lappareil photo

pour allumer et teindre lappareil photo.

Verrouillage Dverrouillage

Utilisation de la poigne-alimentation Montage de la poigne-alimentation

Avant de monter la poigne-alimentation, assurez-vous que

lappareil photo est teint et que le verrouillage des com-

mandes de la MB-D17 ( gure A- !5) est en position L.

1 Retirez le cache-contacts (Figure A- !1) de la poigne.

2 Les contacts pour la MB-D17 se trouvent sous lappareil photo

o ils sont protgs par un cache-contacts. Retirez le cache-

contacts comme indiqu dans la Figure B- q et placez-le sur

le support pour cache-contacts de la MB-D17 (Figure B- w).

3 Positionnez la poigne MB-D17 en alignant sa vis de mon-

tage (Figure C- w) avec le letage de xation sur trpied de

lappareil photo (Figure C- q) et bloquez lensemble en tour-

nant la molette de xation dans la direction indique par la

che LOCK (Figure D). Il nest pas ncessaire de retirer laccu-

mulateur de lappareil photo avant de connecter la MB-D17.

Par dfaut, lappareil photo nutilise son propre accumulateur

quune fois les piles/accumulateurs de la MB-D17 complte-

ment dcharg(es). Loption Ordre dalimentation dispo-

nible dans le menu Con guration de lappareil photo permet

de modi er lordre dutilisation des piles/accumulateurs.

Veillez placer le cache-contacts de lappareil photo sur le

support pour cache-contacts et gardez celui de la poigne

MB-D17 dans un endroit sr pour viter de le perdre.

Un espaceur PB-6D et une bague allonge PK-13 sont nces-

saires en cas dutilisation dun sou et PB-6 avec la MB-D17.

Retrait de la poigne-alimentation

Pour retirer la MB-D17, mettez lappareil photo hors tension et le

verrouillage des commandes de la MB-D17 sur L, puis desserrez

la molette de xation en la faisant tourner dans le sens oppos

celui indiqu par la che LOCK et retirez la MB-D17.

Insertion des piles/accumulateurs

La MB-D17 peut tre utilise avec un accumulateur EN-EL15,

EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a ou EN-EL18 ou avec huit piles/accumu-

lateurs AA. Avant dinsrer les piles/accumulateurs, vri ez

que lappareil photo est teint et que le verrouillage des com-

mandes de la MB-D17 est positionn sur L.

1 Dverrouillez la MB-D17 en positionnant le loquet du lo- gement pour piles/accumulateurs de la MB-D17 sur et retirez le support pour piles/accumulateurs (Figure E).

2 Installez les piles/accumulateurs comme indiqu ci-dessous.

EN-EL15 : Alignez les encoches de laccumulateur avec les

parties saillantes du support MS-D12EN, insrez laccumula-

teur avec la che () sur laccumulateur oriente vers les

contacts dalimentation du support (Figure F- q). Appuyez

lgrement sur laccumulateur et faites-le glisser dans le sens

indiqu par la che jusqu ce que ses contacts dalimenta-

tion senclenchent (Figure F- w).

EN-EL18b, EN-EL18a ou EN-EL18 : Si le loquet de dverrouillage

de laccumulateur sur le volet de logement pour accumula-

teur BL-5 optionnel est positionn de telle sorte que la che

est visible, faites glisser ce loquet pour que la che dis-

paraisse (Figure G-q). Insrez les deux ergots de laccumula-

teur dans les fentes correspondantes sur le BL-5 (Figure G-w)

et vri ez que le loquet de dverrouillage de laccumulateur

est bien sur le ct et laisse apparatre la che (Figure G-e).

Piles/accumulateurs AA : Installez huit piles/accumulateurs AA

dans le support MS-D12 pour piles/accumulateurs comme

indiqu dans la Figure H, en veillant insrer les piles/accu-

mulateurs dans le bon sens.

Connecteur dalimentation EP-5B Pour utiliser le connecteur dalimentation EP-5B, insrez-le

dans le support MS-D12EN en positionnant la che ()

du connecteur vers les contacts dalimentation du sup-

port (Figure I- q). Appuyez doucement sur le connecteur

et faites-le glisser dans le sens de la che jusqu ce que

les contacts dalimentation senclenchent (Figure I- w).

Ouvrez le volet du connecteur dalimentation du support

et faites passer le cble dalimentation du EP-5B travers

louverture (Figure I- e).

3 Insrez le support pour piles/accumulateurs ou lac- cumulateur dans la MB-D17 et verrouillez le volet du logement pour piles/accumulateurs (Figure J). Vrifi ez que le support ou laccumulateur
