To set up the suspension for different terrains, adjust the shock oil viscosity, spring preload, and shock mounting positions. For rough terrains, use a thicker oil and less preload for better absorption. For smoother surfaces, a thinner oil and more preload can improve handling.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the truck after each run, checking for loose screws, inspecting the drivetrain and suspension components, lubricating moving parts, and ensuring the electronics are dry and free from damage.
If you're experiencing steering issues, check for obstructions in the steering mechanism, ensure the servo is functioning properly, inspect the servo saver for damage, and verify that the steering trim is correctly set on the transmitter.
Check the battery charge level and ensure it's fully charged. Inspect the motor and ESC for overheating. Verify that the drivetrain is free of obstructions and that the gear mesh is properly set. Finally, ensure the throttle endpoints are correctly calibrated on the transmitter.
To replace the pinion gear, first remove the gear cover. Loosen the motor screws to slide the motor away from the spur gear. Remove the old pinion gear from the motor shaft, replace it with the new one, and adjust the gear mesh before tightening the motor screws.
Common upgrades include installing a higher capacity or higher C-rated battery, upgrading to metal gears for durability, using high-performance tires for better traction, and upgrading the motor and ESC for increased power and efficiency.
To improve battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery during use. Store batteries at a proper storage voltage when not in use, use a balance charger to maintain cell health, and avoid operating the truck in extreme temperatures.
Immediately turn off the truck and remove the battery. Dry the truck thoroughly using a towel and compressed air. Inspect the electronics for moisture and allow them to dry completely before reassembling. Apply water-displacing spray to metal parts to prevent rust.
To adjust the slipper clutch, remove the gear cover and locate the slipper nut. Tighten the nut for less slip (more power transfer) or loosen it for more slip (more protection to the drivetrain). Adjust in small increments and test the truck for optimal performance.
Signs that shock absorbers need servicing include oil leakage, inconsistent damping, excessive bouncing, and unusual noises during operation. Regularly check for these signs and service shocks by cleaning, refilling with oil, and replacing worn seals.
