To activate the Dynamic Laser Cruise Control, ensure your vehicle is traveling at a speed of 25 mph or higher. Press the 'ON-OFF' button on the end of the cruise control lever to turn the system on. Then, accelerate to your desired speed and push down on the lever to set the speed.
First, check if the laser sensor located at the front of the vehicle is clean and free of obstructions. If the problem persists, have the system checked by a certified Toyota technician, as there may be an alignment or calibration issue.
It is not recommended to use Dynamic Laser Cruise Control in heavy rain or fog, as the system relies on laser sensors that may be impaired by such weather conditions. Always drive with caution and control in adverse weather.
To adjust the following distance, use the 'DISTANCE' button located on the steering wheel. Press the button to cycle through three different following distance settings: long, medium, and short.
Regularly ensure the laser sensor cover is clean and free of debris. During routine vehicle inspections, ask your technician to check the system's alignment and sensor calibration.
Common signs of malfunction include the system not maintaining the set speed or distance, warning lights on the dashboard, or error messages related to the cruise control. If these occur, consult a Toyota service center.
While the system can function on curvy or hilly roads, it is designed for use on highways and straight roads. It may not accurately detect vehicles ahead on sharp curves or steep inclines, so driver supervision is required.
The system may automatically deactivate if the vehicle speed drops below 25 mph, if the brake pedal is pressed, or if the vehicle stability control system intervenes. Check for any warning lights or notifications on the dashboard.
The 2005 Toyota Avalon’s Dynamic Laser Cruise Control is not designed for stop-and-go traffic as it does not bring the vehicle to a complete stop or restart. Use it primarily for steady, highway conditions.
To temporarily disable the system, simply tap the brake pedal, which will disengage the cruise control while retaining the last set speed. To resume, pull the cruise control lever up to the 'RESUME' position.
