To thread the Singer 5805, start by raising the presser foot and setting the needle to its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin, then draw the thread through the thread guide and down through the tension mechanism. Pull the thread upwards through the take-up lever, and finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Check if the needle is installed correctly and not bent or dull. Ensure that the thread is properly threaded and that the tension is set correctly. Using the appropriate needle and thread for your fabric can also help resolve this issue.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin area, removing lint and dust, and oiling the machine as per the manual's instructions. Use a soft brush to clean, and only use sewing machine oil for lubrication. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
Check if the feed dogs are raised and clean. Ensure that the presser foot is down and the correct presser foot is being used for your fabric type. Adjust the stitch length if necessary.
To change the needle, make sure the machine is off. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back, push it up as far as it will go, and tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
For lightweight fabrics, use a 9/11 size needle with a lightweight thread. Medium fabrics require a 14/16 needle and a medium thread. Heavy fabrics are best sewn with an 18 size needle and a heavy-duty thread. Always match the needle and thread to the fabric type for best results.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. For basic sewing, set the tension to a middle number. Test on scrap fabric and adjust accordingly - higher numbers for tighter tension and lower for looser tension.
Turn off the machine and remove the fabric. Check for tangled thread in the bobbin area and clear any obstructions. Re-thread the machine and bobbin, ensuring there are no knots or tangles. Test the machine with a scrap piece of fabric before resuming your project.
Ensure that the machine is threaded correctly and that the bobbin is inserted properly. Check the needle size and type, and make sure it's appropriate for the fabric. Adjust the tension settings, and clean the machine to remove any lint or debris.
Check if the machine is plugged in and the bulb is properly screwed in. If the bulb is burnt out, replace it with a compatible sewing machine bulb as per the manual’s specifications. Always unplug the machine before attempting to change the bulb.
