To thread the Singer 3002 or 3012, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel towards you to raise the needle. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin, and guide the thread through the thread guides and tension discs, following the threading diagram on the machine. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Skipped stitches can result from a dull needle, incorrect needle size, or improper threading. Replace the needle with a new one suitable for your fabric, rethread the machine carefully, and ensure the bobbin is inserted correctly.
Regular maintenance involves cleaning lint from the bobbin area, changing the needle after every 8 hours of sewing, oiling the machine as per the user manual, and ensuring it's covered when not in use. Use a soft brush to clean and avoid using compressed air.
Needle breakage can occur due to incorrect needle insertion, using the wrong needle for the fabric, or sewing over pins. Ensure the needle is inserted correctly, use the appropriate needle type, and remove pins as you sew.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on your Singer 3002. For tighter tension, increase the number on the dial. For looser tension, decrease the number. Test stitch on a scrap fabric to ensure the stitch quality is balanced.
A loud noise could indicate a need for cleaning and oiling. Check for lint buildup in the bobbin area and clean it. Ensure the machine is properly threaded and the needle is not bent. If the noise persists, consult a professional technician.
Uneven stitches can be caused by incorrect tension settings or a dull needle. Check the upper and lower tension settings and adjust as necessary. Replace the needle if it is old or bent, and ensure you are using the correct needle and thread for your fabric.
If your Singer 3002 won't turn on, check that it is securely plugged into a power outlet and that the outlet is working. Examine the power cord for any damage. If the machine still doesn’t power on, it may require professional repair.
To sew a buttonhole, attach the buttonhole foot to your Singer 3012. Select the buttonhole stitch on the machine, place the fabric under the foot, and lower the presser foot. Follow the machine's instructions to complete the buttonhole in four steps.
For sewing denim on the Singer 3002, use a denim or jeans needle, typically size 90/14 or 100/16. These needles are designed to penetrate thick fabrics without bending or breaking.
