To thread the Singer 34L, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel towards you to raise the needle to its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, making sure the thread passes through the tension discs and take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Ensure that you are using the correct needle size and type for your fabric. Check for any bent or damaged needles and replace them if necessary. Also, make sure the needle is inserted correctly and securely in the needle clamp. Inspect the bobbin case and ensure it is correctly positioned.
Regularly clean the machine by removing lint and dust from the bobbin area and feed dogs using a small brush or vacuum attachment. Oil the machine as recommended in the user manual, focusing on the moving parts. Replace the needle regularly and keep the machine covered when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.
Use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. For lighter fabrics, decrease the tension by turning the dial to a lower number. For heavier fabrics, increase the tension by turning the dial to a higher number. Test the stitch on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure proper tension.
Check if the feed dogs are engaged and set to the correct height. Ensure that the presser foot is lowered during sewing. Make sure the stitch length is set correctly for your fabric type. Clean any lint or debris from the feed dog area.
First, turn off the machine and unplug it. Remove the needle and presser foot, then gently remove the fabric. Check the bobbin area for any tangled threads and clear them. Re-thread the machine and bobbin, ensuring correct threading. Reinsert the needle and presser foot, then test the machine on a scrap fabric.
Raise the needle to its highest position and lift the presser foot lever. Press the presser foot release lever to detach the current foot. Align the new presser foot with the foot holder and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place.
Skipped stitches can be caused by a dull or bent needle, incorrect needle size, or improper threading. Ensure the needle is correctly inserted and suitable for the fabric. Re-thread the machine and check the tension settings.
Place the thread spool on the spool pin and draw the thread through the bobbin winder tension disc. Insert the thread end through the bobbin hole from inside out, place the bobbin on the winder spindle, and push it to the right. Hold the thread end and start the machine to wind a few turns, then cut the excess thread. Continue winding until the bobbin is full.
After extensive use, clean the machine thoroughly, focusing on the bobbin area and feed dogs. Oil the machine as recommended. Check and replace the needle if worn or bent. Inspect the tension settings and adjust if necessary. Ensure all screws and moving parts are secure.
