To perform a factory reset on your Onkyo HT R494, turn off the receiver, press and hold the "CBL/SAT" button on the front panel, and then press the "ON/STANDBY" button. Hold both buttons until "Clear" appears on the display. This will reset the receiver to its factory settings.
First, check if the receiver is properly connected to the speakers and the input source. Ensure the correct input source is selected and that the volume is turned up. Also, make sure the receiver is not muted. If using HDMI, verify that the HDMI Control is set correctly.
To update the firmware, connect the receiver to your network via Ethernet. Then, press the "HOME" button on the remote, navigate to "Firmware Update," and select "Update via NET." Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update process.
First, ensure that the batteries in the remote are not depleted and are inserted correctly. Check for any obstructions between the remote and the receiver. Also, verify that the remote is set to control the correct device.
To connect a Bluetooth device, press the "BLUETOOTH" button on the remote control. Set your Bluetooth device to pairing mode and select "Onkyo HT R494" from the list of available devices. Once connected, you can play audio through the receiver.
To clean the receiver, use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Avoid using any liquid or aerosol cleaners. Ensure the receiver is turned off and unplugged before cleaning. Regularly check and clean the vents to prevent dust buildup.

Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT (ARC) port on the receiver to the HDMI ARC port on your TV. Enable HDMI CEC and ARC settings on both the TV and receiver. This setup allows audio to be sent from the TV to the receiver.
The Onkyo HT R494 does not have built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. However, you can connect it to the internet using an Ethernet cable for firmware updates and streaming audio from networked devices.
