Kohler KDW2204 Workshop Manual

The recommended oil type for the Kohler KDW2204 engine is SAE 10W-40 or 15W-40. The oil capacity is approximately 4.5 liters (4.8 US quarts).
The air filter should be checked every 50 hours of operation and replaced if necessary. It is recommended to replace the air filter every 200 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
First, check the fuel supply and ensure that the fuel shutoff valve is open. Inspect the battery and connections to ensure they are clean and tight. Verify that the air filter is clean and that the engine is not flooded.
To reset the service indicator light, turn the ignition key to the "ON" position without starting the engine. Press and hold the reset button on the control panel until the indicator light blinks and then turns off.
If the engine overheats, immediately shut it down and allow it to cool. Check the coolant level and top it up if necessary. Inspect the radiator and cooling fins for debris and clean them if needed. Ensure the fan belt is intact and properly tensioned.
To perform a compression test, remove all glow plugs and connect a compression gauge to one cylinder at a time. Crank the engine and record the pressure reading. Repeat for all cylinders. Ensure readings are within the manufacturer’s specified range.
Ensure the engine is cool and at top dead center for the cylinder being adjusted. Use a feeler gauge to check the clearance between the rocker arm and the valve stem. Adjust the clearance to the specified gap by loosening the lock nut and turning the adjustment screw.
The fuel filter should be checked every 200 hours of operation and replaced every 400 hours or annually, depending on usage conditions and fuel quality.
To store the engine, drain the fuel system, change the oil, and remove the battery. Store the engine in a dry, cool place. Seal the exhaust and air intake openings to prevent moisture ingress.
Identify the source of the oil leak by cleaning the engine and observing the leak location. Common areas include the oil pan gasket, crankshaft seals, and valve cover gasket. Replace the faulty gasket or seal and tighten any loose bolts.
