The recommended oil type for the Kohler CH245 engine is SAE 10W-30 for general use. For temperatures below 32°F (0°C), SAE 5W-30 is recommended.
The air filter should be checked every 25 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first. Replace the air filter if it appears dirty or damaged.
Common causes for rough running or stalling include a dirty air filter, stale fuel, or a clogged fuel filter. Check and replace these components as needed.
If the engine won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is functional, and verify that the safety switches are engaged. Also, inspect the carburetor for any blockages.
To improve fuel efficiency, perform regular maintenance including changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, and ensuring the spark plug is in good condition.
For extended storage, drain the fuel system, change the engine oil, remove the spark plug and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder, and store the engine in a dry place.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle speed screw on the carburetor and turn it clockwise to increase or counterclockwise to decrease the idle speed. Use a tachometer to set the correct RPM.
Common signs include difficulty starting the engine, poor acceleration, misfiring, and increased fuel consumption. Inspect the spark plug for wear or deposits.
To check the fuel filter, locate it along the fuel line, remove it, and inspect for any debris or blockages. Replace if necessary.
Follow the maintenance schedule outlined in the owner's manual: check oil level daily, change oil every 100 hours, replace air filter annually, and inspect spark plug every 100 hours.
