To thread the Janome SW-2018E, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel towards you to raise the needle. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin, and then follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the thread guide, tension disc, and needle. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
If your stitches are skipping, check that the needle is correctly inserted and not bent or dull. Ensure you are using the correct needle size and type for your fabric. Re-thread the machine, checking the top thread and bobbin, and adjust the tension if necessary.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin case and feed dogs with a small brush to remove lint and dust. Oil the machine as specified in the manual, and ensure all screws are tight. Periodically have the machine serviced by a professional.
Ensure the feed dogs are raised and not in the dropped position. Check that the presser foot is lowered and that you are using the correct presser foot for the type of stitch. Inspect the feed dogs for lint or debris and clean if necessary.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Increase the tension for tighter stitches and decrease it for looser stitches. Test on a scrap fabric to ensure the tension is correct for your project.
For sewing denim, use a heavy-duty needle, such as a size 16/100 or 18/110. These needles are designed to penetrate thick fabrics without bending or breaking.
To wind a bobbin, place the spool of thread on the spool pin and draw the thread through the bobbin winding tension disc. Insert the thread end through the bobbin hole from inside to outside and place it on the bobbin winder spindle. Push the spindle to the right and start the machine to begin winding. Cut the excess thread and continue until the bobbin is full.
A loud noise may indicate that the machine needs cleaning or oiling. Check for any loose screws or parts, and ensure the needle is correctly installed and not bent. If the noise persists, consult a professional technician.
To sew a buttonhole, attach the buttonhole foot and select the buttonhole stitch on the machine. Place the fabric under the foot, lower the buttonhole lever, and start sewing. The machine will automatically create the buttonhole in four steps.
Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the machine and a functioning power outlet. Check that the power switch is in the "on" position. If the machine still doesn't turn on, inspect the cord for damage or consult a technician.
