To thread the Janome 109, start by placing the spool on the spool pin. Guide the thread through the upper thread guide, then down and around the tension disks. Pull the thread up through the take-up lever, then down to the needle. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Ensure you are using the correct needle size and type for your fabric. Check for any bent or damaged needles. Verify the needle is inserted correctly and fully tightened. Inspect the bobbin and threading for any tangles or obstructions.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on the machine. Turn it to the right for tighter tension and to the left for looser tension. Test on a scrap fabric to ensure the stitches are even.
Jamming can occur if the machine is not threaded correctly, if there is lint or debris in the bobbin case, or if the thread tension is incorrect. Re-thread the machine, clean the bobbin area, and check tension settings.
Regularly clean the exterior with a soft cloth. Remove the needle plate and bobbin case to clean lint and debris. Oil the machine as per the manual’s instructions and ensure it is stored covered in a dry place.
Check the needle for bends or dullness and replace it if necessary. Ensure the needle is correctly installed. Re-thread the machine, and check the tension settings. Make sure the fabric is being guided properly.
Turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle, flat side to the back, and tighten the clamp screw securely.
Stop sewing immediately and check for any loose screws or parts. Ensure the machine is properly threaded and the needle is not bent. Clean out any lint from the bobbin case and consider having the machine serviced if noises persist.
Check the threading of both the upper thread and bobbin. Adjust the tension if needed. Ensure the fabric is being fed evenly and the presser foot is appropriate for the fabric type.
Polyester or cotton threads are generally recommended for use with the Janome 109. Ensure that the thread quality is high to prevent lint build-up and breakage during sewing.
