To thread the needle, first raise the needle to its highest position. Pull the thread from the spool and guide it through the thread guide, then down the right channel, around the take-up lever, and finally through the needle eye from front to back.
If the machine is skipping stitches, check that the needle is inserted correctly and not bent or damaged. Ensure you are using the correct needle and thread for your fabric. Re-thread the machine and check the bobbin placement.
Regularly clean the machine by removing the needle plate and using a brush to clear out lint and debris. Oil the machine according to the manual's instructions and have it serviced by a professional annually.
Thread bunching, or "bird nesting," can be caused by incorrect threading, incorrect tension settings, or a poorly wound bobbin. Re-thread the machine and adjust the tension as needed.
The Janome Skyline S5 offers a variety of stitches including basic, decorative, quilting, and buttonhole stitches. Refer to the stitch chart on the machine for specific options.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Generally, a setting of 3-5 is appropriate for most fabrics. Test on scrap fabric to ensure proper tension.
If your machine is making unusual noises, stop sewing immediately. Check for tangled thread, re-thread the machine, and ensure the bobbin is correctly placed. If the noise persists, consult a professional technician.
Attach the buttonhole foot, select the desired buttonhole style, place the fabric under the foot, and lower the buttonhole lever. Start sewing, and the machine will automatically create the buttonhole.
Store your machine in a dry, dust-free environment. Cover it with a dust cover or store it in its case to protect it from dust and debris.
To change the presser foot, first raise the presser foot lifter and needle. Press the lever at the back of the foot holder to release the current foot, then align and snap the new foot into place.
