To thread the Janome Sewist 525S LE, first, raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel to raise the needle to its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin. Pull the thread under the thread guide and down into the tension area. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, passing the thread through the take-up lever, and finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Thread breakage can be caused by several issues: incorrect threading, using the wrong type of thread, a blunt or damaged needle, improper tension setting, or lint buildup in the tension discs. Re-thread the machine, ensure you're using the correct thread and needle for your fabric, clean the machine, and adjust the tension if necessary.
If the bobbin is not winding properly, ensure the machine is set to bobbin winding mode and the needle is disengaged. Check that the thread is correctly placed through the bobbin winding tension disc. Make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly on the bobbin winder spindle and that the spindle is pushed to the right.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin area, changing the needle regularly, oiling the machine as per the manual instructions, and checking for any loose screws or parts. It’s also advisable to have the machine serviced by a professional annually.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on the front of the machine. Increase the tension by turning the dial to a higher number, or decrease it by turning it to a lower number. Test on a scrap piece of fabric to ensure the stitch quality is balanced.
If the fabric isn’t feeding correctly, check that the feed dogs are raised and not lowered for darning. Verify the presser foot pressure is appropriate for the fabric thickness. Also, ensure that there is no lint or debris obstructing the feed dogs.
Turn off the machine and turn the handwheel to raise the needle to its highest position. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back, and tighten the needle clamp screw securely.
Skipping stitches can result from using a damaged or incorrect needle, improper threading, or incorrect tension settings. Replace the needle with a new one suitable for your fabric, re-thread the machine, and check the tension. Ensure the fabric is being fed evenly.
To select a stitch, turn the pattern selector dial on the front of the machine to the desired stitch number. Make sure the needle is in its highest position to avoid damage. Adjust stitch length and width as needed using the respective dials.
Unusual noises can be due to a lack of lubrication, lint buildup, or loose parts. Ensure the machine is properly oiled and clean out any lint from the bobbin area and feed dogs. Check for and tighten any loose screws or parts.
