To thread the Janome RX18S, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel to raise the needle. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin, and follow the threading path marked on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and the take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
If stitches are skipping, check if the needle is bent or dull and replace it if necessary. Ensure the needle is inserted correctly, and verify that the machine is threaded properly. Also, check the tension settings and adjust as needed.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin area and feed dogs using a small brush or vacuum attachment. Oil the machine as recommended in the manual. Always unplug the machine before cleaning, and refer to the user manual for detailed maintenance instructions.
Unusual noises can be due to incorrect threading, a bent needle, or lack of lubrication. Re-thread the machine, replace the needle if necessary, and ensure that the machine is properly oiled. If the noise persists, consult a professional technician.
To adjust the tension, locate the tension dial on the machine. Increase the tension by turning the dial to a higher number for tighter stitches, or decrease it by turning to a lower number for looser stitches. Test on a scrap fabric to find the optimal setting.
The Janome RX18S can sew a variety of fabrics, including cotton, polyester, denim, and light canvas. For heavier fabrics, ensure you use an appropriate needle and adjust the tension and stitch length accordingly.
To change the needle, turn off the machine and raise the needle to its highest position using the handwheel. Loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the old needle. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back, and tighten the clamp screw securely.
Thread breakage can be caused by incorrect threading, old or poor-quality thread, or an incorrectly installed needle. Re-thread the machine, use high-quality thread, and ensure the needle is properly installed and not damaged.
Ensure the bobbin is placed correctly on the bobbin winder spindle and that the thread is threaded through the bobbin winding guide. Check that the bobbin winder stopper is properly engaged and that the bobbin is not overfilled.
If fabric is not feeding properly, ensure the presser foot is down, and check the feed dogs for lint or debris. Clean the feed dogs and ensure they are raised. Adjust the presser foot pressure if necessary.
