To thread the Janome L-393, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel to raise the needle to its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin and draw the thread through the thread guide. Follow the threading path as indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and the take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
If your Janome L-393 is skipping stitches, ensure the needle is correctly inserted and not bent or dull. Use the appropriate needle size and type for your fabric. Check the threading of the machine, as incorrect threading can cause skipping. Also, inspect the bobbin case for any lint or debris that may interfere with stitching.
Regular maintenance of the Janome L-393 includes cleaning the bobbin case and feed dogs, oiling the machine as per the manual's instructions, and changing the needle regularly. Also, cover the machine when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.
Thread bunching, often called 'bird nesting', is typically caused by incorrect threading of the machine or bobbin. Re-thread the upper thread, ensuring it follows the correct path and tension settings. Check that the bobbin is inserted properly and that the bobbin tension is adjusted correctly.
To adjust the tension on the Janome L-393, use the tension dial located on the machine's front. For most fabrics, a medium setting (around 4) is suitable. If the stitches are too tight or loose, adjust the dial incrementally and test on a fabric scrap until the desired stitch quality is achieved.
To wind a bobbin on the Janome L-393, place an empty bobbin on the bobbin winder spindle. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin and guide the thread through the bobbin winding tension disc. Wind the thread around the bobbin several times, push the bobbin spindle to the right, and start the machine. Trim the excess thread and wind until the bobbin is full.
To fix tension issues, first ensure the machine is threaded correctly. Check that the presser foot is down when sewing. Adjust the upper tension dial if necessary and test on a fabric scrap. If problems persist, check the bobbin tension and re-thread both the upper thread and bobbin.
If the needle breaks, turn off the machine immediately. Remove the broken needle parts, and check for any damage to the needle plate or presser foot. Replace it with a new needle appropriate for the fabric and ensure it is properly inserted.
To change the presser foot on the Janome L-393, raise the presser foot and needle. Press the lever at the back of the presser foot holder to release the current foot. Align the new presser foot with the holder, lower the presser bar, and it will snap into place.
Unusual noises can be caused by several factors, such as a loose needle, incorrect threading, or a dirty machine. Ensure the needle is secure and not bent, check the threading, and clean the machine, especially the feed dogs and bobbin area. If the noise persists, consult a professional technician.
