To thread the Janome L-372, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel towards you until the needle is at its highest position. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin and follow the threading path: through the thread guide, down the right side of the tension disc, up through the take-up lever, and finally thread the needle from front to back.
Ensure that the presser foot is lowered and the feed dogs are engaged. Check that the stitch length is set appropriately and that the presser foot pressure is not too light. Cleaning the feed dogs to remove any lint buildup can also improve fabric feeding.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. Higher numbers increase tension, while lower numbers decrease it. Test on a scrap fabric to achieve balanced stitches, where the top and bottom threads interlock smoothly.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin area, feed dogs, and around the needle bar to remove lint and debris. Oil the machine as per the manual's instructions, typically every few months or after extensive use. Always use sewing machine oil for lubrication.
Needle breakage can be due to several reasons: using the wrong needle type or size for the fabric, inserting the needle incorrectly, or having incorrect tension settings. Ensure the needle is suitable for the fabric and is inserted with the flat side facing the back.
The Janome L-372 has a stitch selector dial. Turn the dial to choose the desired stitch pattern. Ensure the needle is in the highest position when changing stitches to avoid damage. Refer to the stitch chart for guidance on each pattern.
Unusual noises can indicate a need for cleaning or oiling. Ensure there are no thread tangles or debris in the bobbin area. Check that the needle is not bent and the machine is threaded correctly. If the noise persists, consult a professional technician.
To wind the bobbin, place an empty bobbin on the bobbin winder spindle. Thread the machine and guide the thread around the bobbin winding tension disc. Push the spindle to the right and hold the thread end. Start the machine and cut the thread tail once the bobbin is partially filled. Continue until the bobbin is full.
Skipped stitches can be caused by a dull or incorrectly inserted needle, improper threading, or tension issues. Replace the needle, rethread the machine, and ensure the tension settings are correct. Use the appropriate needle for the fabric type.
If experiencing bobbin tension issues, remove the bobbin case and check for lint or thread buildup. Clean it thoroughly. Ensure the bobbin is wound evenly and inserted correctly. Adjust the bobbin case tension screw if necessary, but make small adjustments and test frequently.
