To thread the Janome JP720, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel to raise the needle. Place the spool of thread on the spool pin, draw the thread through the top thread guide, down the right channel, up the left channel, and through the take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Start by rethreading the machine, ensuring the presser foot is up. Check the bobbin to ensure it is wound evenly and inserted correctly. Adjust the tension dial incrementally, testing on a scrap fabric until the stitch looks balanced.
First, check if the needle is blunt or bent and replace it if necessary. Ensure the needle is correctly inserted with the flat side facing the back. Verify that the needle size is appropriate for the fabric and thread being used.
Regularly clean the machine by removing the needle plate and bobbin case to clear lint and debris. Use a small brush to clean these areas. Oil the machine as recommended in the manual, focusing on the bobbin area and moving parts.
Ensure the machine is correctly threaded and that the needle is not bent. Check for any obstructions in the bobbin area. It might also be time to oil the machine as per the maintenance schedule in the manual.
The stitch length can be adjusted using the stitch length dial on the machine. Turn the dial to select the desired stitch length, with higher numbers representing longer stitches.
Ensure the presser foot is lowered and the feed dogs are engaged. Check that the stitch length is not set to zero. Clean under the needle plate to remove any lint that might be obstructing the feed dogs.
To select different stitches, turn the stitch selector dial to the desired stitch. Refer to the stitch chart on the machine or in the manual to identify the stitch patterns.
First, replace the needle as it could be dull or bent. Check the threading of the machine, both upper and bobbin thread. Ensure the fabric is appropriate for the selected needle size and type.
Raise the presser foot lifter and needle to the highest position. Press the presser foot release lever to remove the current foot. Align the new foot with the presser foot holder and lower the presser foot lifter to snap it into place.
