To thread the Janome JNH720, start by raising the presser foot and turning the handwheel towards you until the needle is at its highest position. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin, and follow the numbered threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and the take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
If stitches are skipping, check that the needle is correctly installed and not bent or dull. Ensure you are using the correct needle and thread for your fabric type. Also, rethread the machine, making sure the thread is properly seated in the tension discs, and check the bobbin to ensure it is inserted correctly.
To adjust the tension, use the tension dial located on the top front of the machine. For general sewing, a setting of 4 or 5 is usually appropriate. If stitches are puckering, reduce the tension. If loops are forming on the underside, increase the tension. Always test on a scrap of fabric before sewing your project.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the bobbin area and feed dogs to remove lint and dust. Oil the machine as recommended in the user manual, typically around the bobbin case and hook. Replace needles frequently, and have the machine professionally serviced annually for optimal performance.
If the fabric is not feeding, ensure the presser foot is lowered. Check that the feed dogs are raised and not set for darning or freehand embroidery. Clean out any lint or debris around the feed dogs, and make sure you are using the appropriate presser foot for your fabric type.
To change the presser foot, raise the needle to its highest position and lift the presser foot lever. Press the release lever located at the back of the foot holder to detach the current foot. Align the new foot with the holder and lower the presser foot lever until it snaps into place.
The Janome JNH720 uses a standard plastic bobbin, size Class 15. It is important to use the correct bobbin type to ensure proper tension and stitch quality. Always refer to your machine's manual for specific recommendations.
For bobbin tension issues, first ensure the bobbin is wound evenly and placed correctly in the case. Check that the bobbin thread is threaded through the tension spring on the case. If problems persist, consult the manual for tension adjustment instructions or consider having the machine serviced.
To select different stitches, use the stitch selector dial on the front of the machine. Turn the dial to align the desired stitch number with the indicator. Ensure the machine is turned off while changing stitches to avoid accidental operation.
Frequent needle breaks can be caused by incorrect needle type, size, or improper installation. Ensure you are using the right needle for your fabric and that it is inserted correctly with the flat side facing the back. Avoid pulling the fabric while sewing, which can also cause needle breakage.
