To thread the Janome JD 1818, start by placing the spool on the spool pin. Follow the threading diagram on the machine, passing the thread through the upper thread guide, tension discs, and down to the needle. Ensure the presser foot is raised to properly seat the thread in the tension discs.
If the needle keeps breaking, check that you are using the correct needle size and type for your fabric. Ensure the needle is inserted correctly and is not bent. Also, verify that the needle is compatible with the thread and that the tension settings are appropriate.
To adjust the tension on the Janome JD 1818, use the tension dial located on the front of the machine. A higher number increases tension, while a lower number decreases it. Test on a scrap fabric to find the appropriate setting.
If the fabric is not feeding, ensure the presser foot is lowered and the feed dogs are engaged. Check for lint or debris around the feed dogs and clean them if necessary. Also, verify that the stitch length is not set to zero.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning lint from the bobbin area and feed dogs, oiling the machine as per the manual's guidance, and changing the needle regularly. Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever and press the lever at the back of the foot holder to release the current foot. Position the new foot under the holder and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place.
Uneven stitches can be caused by incorrect tension settings, a damaged needle, or unsuitable thread. Re-thread the machine, check tension settings, replace the needle if necessary, and ensure you are using compatible thread.
First, turn off the machine and gently remove the fabric. Check for thread tangles in the bobbin area and remove any obstructions. Re-thread the machine and test on scrap fabric. Ensure the needle and bobbin are correctly installed.
A loud noise may indicate a need for cleaning or oiling. Check for any trapped thread or lint in the bobbin area. Also, ensure that the machine is properly threaded and that the needle is not bent or dull.
To use the buttonhole feature, attach the buttonhole foot, select the buttonhole stitch, and adjust the stitch length and width as needed. Mark the buttonhole size on the fabric and sew, following the machine's buttonhole guide.
