To thread the Janome 5812, first raise the presser foot and turn the handwheel towards you to raise the needle to its highest position. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin and secure it with a spool cap. Follow the threading path indicated on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through the tension discs and take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.
Uneven stitches can be caused by incorrect threading, tension settings, or needle issues. Re-thread the machine, ensuring the thread is properly seated in the tension discs. Check and adjust the tension settings as needed. Also, consider replacing the needle if it is bent or dull.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the lint from the bobbin area and around the feed dogs. Use a brush to remove lint and debris. Occasionally, apply a drop of sewing machine oil to the moving parts as indicated in the manual. Always unplug the machine before performing maintenance.
For lightweight fabrics, use a size 9/11 needle. Medium-weight fabrics typically require size 14, while heavier fabrics like denim may need a size 16 needle. Always choose the needle size based on the fabric and thread type for optimal performance.
The tension can be adjusted using the tension dial located on the front of the machine. For most sewing tasks, a setting of 3-5 is appropriate. If loops appear on the top side of the fabric, increase the tension. If loops form on the underside, decrease the tension.
Jamming can occur due to improper threading, incorrect bobbin placement, or fabric being pulled too forcefully. Ensure the machine is correctly threaded, the bobbin is properly seated, and avoid pulling the fabric while sewing.
If the machine is noisy, it may need cleaning or lubrication. Check for lint buildup in the bobbin area and around the feed dogs. Apply a drop of oil to the designated areas. If the noise persists, consult a professional technician.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever and needle to the highest position. Press the presser foot release lever to remove the current foot. Align the new foot with the presser foot holder and lower the presser foot lever to snap it into place.
Skipped stitches can result from a bent or incorrect needle, or improper threading. Replace the needle, ensuring it is the correct type and size for the fabric. Re-thread the machine, making sure the thread is properly aligned.
Ensure the machine is plugged in and the power switch is turned on. Check the foot pedal connection and ensure it is securely plugged into the machine. If the problem persists, inspect the power cord and pedal for damage, and consult a technician if necessary.
