To program frequencies, turn on the radio and press the 'VFO/MR' button to select VFO mode. Use the keypad to enter a frequency. Press 'FUNC' followed by 'MW' to store it, then choose a memory channel and confirm by pressing 'MW' again.
Ensure that the battery is fully charged and properly connected. Check the battery terminals for any dirt or corrosion. If the issue persists, try using a different compatible battery or contact Icom support.
To reset the IC-G86, turn off the radio. Then, while holding down the 'SQL' and 'FUNC' buttons, turn the radio back on. This will reset the settings to factory defaults.
Press the 'SQL' button and rotate the dial to adjust the squelch level. A lower setting allows weaker signals to be heard, while a higher setting blocks them.
Regularly clean the radio with a soft, dry cloth. Check battery contacts and antenna connections for corrosion. Store it in a cool, dry place, and perform firmware updates as needed.
Reduce the screen brightness and set the power output to low when full power is not necessary. Turn off functions like GPS if not needed, and ensure to fully charge and discharge the battery periodically.
Ensure the antenna is tightly connected and undamaged. Adjust the squelch level and verify that you are within the operating range. Interference from other devices or obstructions might also affect reception.
Press the 'FUNC' button followed by 'DW' to activate dual watch mode. This allows you to monitor two frequencies simultaneously.
The IC-G86 is not specifically designed for marine use. Ensure compliance with local regulations and consider using a marine-specific transceiver for maritime communication.
Visit the Icom website to download the latest firmware. Connect your radio to a computer via USB, and follow the instructions provided with the firmware to complete the update.
