To start the Gradall 522D LoPro Forklift, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the transmission is in neutral, and all controls are in their neutral positions. Insert the ignition key and turn it to the start position. Once the engine is running, release the key.
Perform a daily inspection by checking fluid levels (engine oil, hydraulic fluid, coolant), inspecting tires for wear and proper inflation, ensuring forks are not damaged, and checking all lights and gauges for proper operation.
If the forklift won't start, check for a dead battery, ensure the parking brake is set, and verify that the transmission is in neutral. Inspect the fuses and check for any error codes on the display.
Check for hydraulic fluid leaks, ensure fluid levels are adequate, and inspect hydraulic hoses and fittings for damage. Test the hydraulic pump and valves for proper operation and listen for unusual noises.
Regular maintenance includes changing engine oil and filters, inspecting and replacing air filters, checking and topping off fluids, inspecting brakes and steering components, and lubricating pivot points and joints.
To adjust the forks, ensure the forklift is on a level surface and the engine is off. Release the fork locking pins and manually slide the forks to the desired width, then re-engage the locking pins to secure them.
Inspect the brake pads and discs for wear, check the brake fluid level, and ensure there are no leaks in the brake lines. Test the brakes for proper function by applying them at low speed in a safe area.
If the forklift is overheating, check the coolant level and inspect the radiator for blockages. Ensure the cooling fan is working properly and that the engine is not overloaded. Consider flushing the cooling system if necessary.
Maintain regular engine tune-ups, ensure tires are properly inflated, reduce idling time, and operate the forklift within its optimal load capacity. Regularly clean air filters to ensure efficient combustion.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, conduct a pre-operation inspection, operate at safe speeds, avoid sharp turns, and ensure the load is stable and secure before moving. Follow all facility safety guidelines.
