1 Slidetheblackpaperstopofftheendof thespindle.
Note: To use paper with a 3-inch core, attach the gray adapters to the paper stops at each end. See your Printer Guide for details.
2 Positiontherollasshown,thenslidethespindleinto theroll.
3 Slidetheblackpaperstopbackontothespindleand insertitfirmlyintotheendoftheroll.
4 Toadjustthetension,slidetheswitchtoHforhigh tension(formostfineartpapers)orNfornormal.
5 Opentherollpapercover.
6 Placetherollpaperintheprinterasshown.(The blackendofthespindlegoesontheleft.)
7 Aligntherollwiththerailsonbothsides,androllit ontothemountingbrackets.
8 Makesuretheprinteristurnedon,thenpressthe PaperSourcebuttonuntilthe or icon
appears.

9 Releasethepaperlever.Iftheleverislocked,press andholdthe buttonfor3secondstounlockit.
10 Feedthepaperintotheslotandpullitalltheway through.
11 Turntherollbacktoremoveanyslack.Thenalign thebottomedgewiththehorizontalandvertical lines.
12 Returnthepaperlevertothelockedposition.Then closetherollpapercover.
13 Pressthe Pausebutton.Thepaperfeedsinto printingposition.
14 Checktheprinterscontrolpanelandselectthe correctmediatype.
Using the Auto Take-Up Reel
Youcanwindpaperforwardorbackward.
Beforeyouprint,makesureyoupress andselect .
Winding Paper Forward
1 Setthepaperguidestotheforwardposition.
6 HolddowntheAuto Forwardbuttononthe controlpaneltorotatethetake-upreelandwinda smalllengthofpaper.
7 Whenyourereadytoprint,makesureAutoCutis settoOffintheprinterdriver.
Winding Paper Backward
1 Setthepaperguidestotheverticalposition.
2 Aligntheedgeofthepaperwiththehorizontal andverticallines.Thenpressthe buttontofeed thepaper.
2 Aligntheedgeofthepaperwiththehorizontalline. Thenpressthe buttontofeedthepaper.
3 Usethreepiecesoftapetoattachthepapertothe take-upreelcore.
4 Pressthe buttontofeedthepaperandcreate someslack.
5 Pressthe buttonuntil appearsontheLCD.
3 Pullthepaperaroundthebackofthetake-upreel coreandusethreepiecesoftapetoattachthepaper tothecore.

5 HolddowntheAuto Backwardbuttononthe controlpaneltorotatethetake-upreelandwinda smalllengthofpaper.
6 Whenyourereadytoprint,makesureAutoCutis settoOffintheprinterdriver.Thensendyourprint jobtotheprinter.

5 Feedtheposterboardintothepaperslotuntilit meetsresistance.
6 Aligntheboardwiththescaleontherollpaper cover.
7 Returnthepaperlevertothelockedposition.Then closethefrontcover.
8 Pressthe Pausebutton.Theboardfeedsintothe printingpositionautomatically.
9 Runyourprintjob.Afteritisfinished,the posterboardstaysintheprinter.
10 Toremovetheprint,holditandreleasethe paperlever.
Loading and Using Cut Sheet Paper
1 Removeanyrollpaperfromthepaperpath.Make suretheprinterisonandtherollpapercoveris closed.
2 Pressthe PaperSourcebuttonuntilthe icon appearsontheLCD.
3 Releasethepaperlever.Iftheleverislocked,press andholdthe buttonfor3secondstounlockit.
Note: If youre printing on small sheets or fine art paper, do not release the paper lever.
4 Feedthesheetintothepaperslotuntilitmeets resistance.Makesuretherightandbottomedges ofthepaperarestraightandalignedwiththe horizontalandverticallinesontheprinter.
5 Ifyoureleasedthepaperlever,returnittothe lockedposition.
6 Pressthe Pausebutton.Thesheetfeedsintothe printingpositionautomatically.
Caution: To avoid damaging the printer, never move the paper lever during printing, or while the Power or Pause light is flashing.
7 Printyourpage.Afteritisfinished,thesheetstays intheprinter.
8 Toremoveyourprint,pressthe button.
Printing on Posterboard Whenyouprintonposterboardorotherthickmedia (morethan19milthick),youshouldopenthefront coverbeforeloadingasdescribedbelow.
1 Makesuretheprinterisonandtherollpapercover isclosed.
2 Pressthe PaperSourcebuttonuntilthe icon appearsontheLCD.
3 Releasethepaperlever.Iftheleverislocked,press andholdthe buttonfor3secondstounlockit.
4 Openthefrontcover.(Thecoverhasalipthatacts asapapersupportwhenthecoverisopen.)
10 Pressthe buttontostartthealignmentprocess. Eachheadalignmenttakesabout7minutes.
Caution: Make sure you dont open the front cover or turn off the printer during the alignment process.
11 Whentheuni-directionalalignmentisfinished,press the buttonuntilBI-D 2-COLORishighlighted. Thenpress againtostartthebi-directionalblack alignment.
12 Whenthebi-directionalblackalignmentisfinished, pressthe buttonuntilBI-D ALLishighlighted. Thenpress .
13 Whenthefinalalignmentisfinished,pressthe Pausebutton.
Checking, Cleaning, and Aligning the Print Head
Automatically Checking and Cleaning the Print Head Theprinterautomaticallychecksthenozzlesandcleans themifnecessary.Youcanspecifyhowoftenyouwantthis tohappen.
1 PresstheMenubutton.PRINTER SETUPis highlighted.PressMenuagain.
2 Press untilAUTO NOZZLE CHECKis highlighted,thenpressMenu.
3 Selectoneofthefollowing,thenpress :
ON: PERIODICALLYTheprinterperiodically checksitsnozzlesandrunsacleaningcycleif necessary(defaultsettings).
ON: EVERY JOBTheprinterautomatically checksitsnozzlesandrunsacleaningcycleif necessarybeforeeachprintjob.Thisprocessuses averysmallamountofink(andnopaper)andis usefulifyouarerunninglargeprintjobsunattended.
OFF
Tocleantheprintheadmanually,presstheMenubutton andholditfor3seconds.
Note: You can also run nozzle checks and head cleaning cycles from your computer using the Epson Printer Utility 2 (Macintosh) or the Utility tab in your printer driver (Windows). See your Printer Guide for more information.
Aligning the Print Head Ifyourprintslookgrainyorblurry,oryousee misregistrationorghosting,youneedtoalignthe printhead.
1 Makesuretheprinteristurnedon.LoadEpson DoubleweightMatte,UltraPremiumPresentation PaperMatte,EnhancedMatte,UltraPremium PhotoPaperLuster,orPremiumLusterPhotoPaper.
2 PresstheMenu button.
3 Pressthe or buttonuntilHEAD ALIGNMENT is highlighted.ThenpressMenu.
4 Press ,selectthepaperyouloaded,thenpressthe buttontosavethesetting.
5 Press twicetobackup.
6 Press tohighlightSELECT THICKNESS,then pressMenu.
7 Selectthethickness(0.2mmor8milformost Epsonpapers),press ,thenpress twiceto backup.
8 Press tohighlightALIGNMENT.
9 PresstheMenubuttontohighlightAUTO,then pressMenuagain.UNI-D(uni-directional)is highlighted.Thisisthetypeofalignmentto startwith.

Checking Ink Levels and Replacing Ink Cartridges
Beforeyoubeginalargeprintjob,youshouldcheckyour inklevels.Ifoneofyourcartridgesislow,youcanreplace itbeforeyoustart.Oryoucanwaituntiltheinkruns out,replacethecartridge,andthencontinuethejob.
Checking Ink and Maintenance Tank Levels Theeasiestwaytocheckinklevelsisfromthecontrol panel.Thenumbersbelowtheinkcartridgeicons correspondtothe9cartridgeslotsintheprinter.
Replacing Ink Cartridges Whenoneoftheinkbaylightsflashes,andINK LOWis displayedontheLCD,thecartridgeisnearlyexpended. ChecktheLCDtoseewhichcartridgeislow,andmake sureyouhavethecorrectreplacementcartridge.

WhenoneoftheiconsisblankandNOT ENOUGH INKisdisplayed,thecartridgeisexpended.Toreplace thecartridge,firstmakesuretheprinterison.
1 Presstheinkcoverbuttontounlockthecover,then openit.
Note: If the ink cover doesnt open when you press the button, insert the end of a paper clip in the small hole on the upper left corner.
2 Pushintheexpendedcartridgetoreleaseit.
3 Removetheexpendedinkcartridgefromtheprinter.
Warning: Do not shake the expended cartridge, or ink may leak. If ink gets on your hands, wash them thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets in your eyes, flush them immediately with water.
4 Makesurethereplacementcartridgeisthecorrect color,andremoveitfromitspackage.Gentlyshake thecartridgebeforeinstallingit.

5 Holdthecartridgewiththearrowmarkpointing towardtheprinter.Theninsertthecartridgeintothe slot.Dontforceit.
Note: If you cant insert the cartridge smoothly, you may have the wrong cartridge. Check the package and product code. If the Ink light remains on after installing the cartridge, try removing and then reinserting it.
6 Closetheinkbaycover.
Replacing the Printer Cutter Blade Ifyounoticethatthepaperisntcutcleanly,youmayneed toreplacethecutterblade(part#C12C815291).
Cuttingthefollowingmediamayshortenthecutterslife andisnotrecommended: Fineartpaper(suchasEpsonUltraSmooth, Textured,orVelvet) Canvas Vinyl
1 PresstheMenubuttonontheprinter,then press untilMAINTENANCEishighlighted.
2 PresstheMenubutton.Press tohighlight CUTTER REPLACEMENT.
3 PressMenutodisplayEXECUTE,thenpress . Thepapercutterholdermovestothereplacement position.
4 Openthefrontcover.
5 Locatethecutterassemblywithablueplasticcover.

1 ChecktheLCDtodeterminewhichtankneedsto bereplaced.
8 Insertthenewcutterblade.
9 Holddownthesidepinwhileturningthelatchto theleft.
10 Closethefrontcover.Thecutterreturnstothehome position.
