To load continuous paper, ensure the printer is turned off, open the tractor cover, and set the paper release lever to the continuous paper position. Insert the paper into the tractor feeder, adjust the sprockets to fit the holes on the paper, and close the tractor cover. Finally, turn on the printer and use the paper feed function to align the paper properly.
First, check if the ribbon cartridge is properly installed and not empty. Ensure the paper is loaded correctly. Verify that the print head is not clogged by running a printer self-test. If the issue persists, check the printer driver settings to confirm that it is configured correctly for the document you are printing.
To reduce paper jams, ensure that the paper is loaded correctly and the paper path is clear. Regularly clean the printer and remove any debris or dust. Ensure the paper is not wrinkled or folded before loading and adjust the paper guides to match the size of the paper.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the exterior of the printer with a soft, dry cloth, checking and replacing the ribbon cartridge when necessary, and cleaning the paper path to prevent jams. It's also advisable to perform a print head alignment and check for firmware updates periodically.
To perform a self-test, turn off the printer. Hold down the LF/FF button while turning the printer back on. The printer will print a self-test page, which helps determine if the printer is functioning correctly.
Check the connection between the printer and the computer, ensuring the cables are securely connected. Restart both the printer and the computer. Verify that the correct printer is selected as the default in the 'Printers & Scanners' settings. Reinstall the printer driver if necessary.
Ensure the printer is turned off. Open the printer cover and move the print head to the middle. Remove the old ribbon cartridge by lifting it out. Insert the new ribbon cartridge by aligning it with the print head and pressing it down until it clicks into place. Turn the ribbon-tightening knob to remove slack, then close the printer cover.
Poor or faint print quality may be due to an old or worn-out ribbon cartridge. Replace the ribbon if necessary. Ensure the paper type and thickness settings are correct. Clean the print head and perform a print head alignment if needed.
The Epson FX-980 is primarily a parallel and serial interface printer. To connect it to a network, you may need a print server compatible with parallel or serial connections. Connect the printer to the print server, then configure the network settings according to the print server's instructions.
Unusual noises may indicate a mechanical issue. Turn off the printer and inspect for any paper jams or foreign objects. Ensure the print head moves smoothly along its path. If noises persist, consult the user manual for troubleshooting or contact Epson support for assistance.
