To start the Subaru Robin RGX1800 Generator, first ensure it is on a level surface. Check the oil and fuel levels. Turn the fuel valve to 'ON', then set the choke lever to 'CLOSED' if starting cold. Turn the engine switch to 'ON'. Finally, pull the recoil starter handle gently until resistance is felt, then pull briskly.
Use SAE 10W-30 oil for general use. In environments with temperatures consistently above 32°F (0°C), SAE 30 can be used. For cold climates, SAE 5W-30 may be more appropriate. Always refer to the owner’s manual for specific recommendations.
Perform regular maintenance every 50 hours of use or every 6 months, whichever comes first. This includes changing the oil, checking the air filter, and inspecting the spark plug. Comprehensive maintenance, such as valve clearance checks, should be done annually or every 300 hours.
If the generator won't start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and clean or replace it as needed. Ensure the choke is set correctly depending on the temperature. Also, check the oil level; the generator may not start if oil is low due to a low oil sensor.
To store the generator, run it until it is out of fuel to prevent stale fuel issues. Drain the carburetor and change the oil. Remove the spark plug and pour a tablespoon of oil into the cylinder, then pull the recoil starter gently to distribute the oil. Store in a dry, dust-free environment.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover and take out the filter element. Wash it with soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and let it dry completely. Lightly oil the filter before reinstalling. If the filter is damaged or overly dirty, replace it with a new one.
If the generator runs but doesn't produce power, check the circuit breaker and reset it if necessary. Inspect the connections and cords for any damage. If the issue persists, it might be a problem with the alternator or voltage regulator, which may require professional servicing.
Signs of a faulty spark plug include difficulty starting the engine, misfiring, and reduced engine performance. Visually inspect the spark plug for carbon build-up, cracks, or a worn electrode. Replace if any of these signs are present.
To change the oil, first ensure the generator is on a level surface and the engine is warm but off. Remove the oil filler cap and drain plug to let the oil drain into a suitable container. Replace the plug and refill with the recommended oil type and amount. Check the oil level with the dipstick to ensure it's correct.
Engine surging or poor performance can be caused by a dirty air filter, incorrect fuel mixture, or carburetor issues. Clean or replace the air filter, ensure the fuel is fresh and the correct type, and consider cleaning the carburetor if necessary. Also, check for any air leaks in the intake system.
