The recommended oil type for the Subaru EH18V engine is SAE 10W-30 for general use. For temperatures consistently below 32°F (0°C), SAE 5W-30 is recommended.
It is recommended to inspect and clean the air filter every 25 hours of operation, and replace it every 100 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
The proper spark plug gap for the Subaru EH18V engine is 0.028-0.031 inches (0.7-0.8 mm).
To troubleshoot starting issues, check the fuel level, inspect the spark plug for wear, ensure the air filter is clean, and verify that the ignition switch is functioning properly.
Begin by locating the carburetor adjustment screws. Adjust the idle screw to achieve the recommended idle speed and fine-tune the mixture screw for smooth operation. Refer to the engine manual for specific settings.
Regular maintenance includes changing the oil every 50 hours of operation, cleaning and replacing the air filter as needed, checking and replacing the spark plug annually, and inspecting the fuel system for leaks or blockages.
Ensure there is adequate airflow around the engine, check the cooling fins for debris, verify oil levels, and inspect the exhaust system for blockages. Allow the engine to cool before further inspection.
To winterize the engine, drain the fuel tank and carburetor, change the oil, remove and clean the spark plug, and apply a light coating of oil to the cylinder through the spark plug hole. Store in a dry, cool place.
Common causes include an unbalanced blade or flywheel, worn engine mounts, or a loose or damaged part. Inspect for loose components and balance the blades if necessary.
Remove the recoil assembly from the engine, unwind the old cord, and install a new cord of the same length and thickness. Reattach the recoil assembly and test the pull start mechanism for proper function.
