To start a Subaru EY18-3 engine, ensure the fuel valve is open, set the choke lever to the "closed" position, turn the engine switch to "on", and pull the starter handle briskly. Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the "open" position.
Routine maintenance includes checking and changing the oil regularly, cleaning or replacing the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, and checking fuel lines for any leaks or damages.
Common causes include a dirty air filter, bad spark plug, stale fuel, or a closed fuel valve. Check each of these components and replace or adjust as necessary.
Change the oil after the first 20 hours of use, and then every 50 hours of operation or at least once a season.
SAE 10W-30 is recommended for most conditions, but refer to the owner's manual for specific recommendations based on temperature conditions.
Check for obstructions in the cooling fins or air intake, ensure proper oil levels, and verify that the engine is not running at excessive loads. Clean or repair as needed.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter element, and clean it with compressed air or warm soapy water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
Potential causes include a clogged fuel line, dirty carburetor, or fouled spark plug. Inspect and clean or replace these components as necessary.
Locate the adjustment screws on the carburetor. Adjust the idle and main mixture screws to achieve smooth idling and optimal performance. Refer to the service manual for specific adjustment procedures.
Immediately stop the engine and inspect the fuel lines, fuel tank, and connections for damage or wear. Replace any faulty components and ensure all connections are secure before restarting.
