The Stihl TS 480i and TS 500i require a fuel mixture of 50:1, which is 50 parts gasoline to 1 part high-quality 2-cycle engine oil.
The air filter should be inspected and cleaned after every 10 hours of operation, and replaced if necessary. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.
Check the fuel level and ensure it's fresh. Verify the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Inspect the air filter and clean or replace it if dirty. Ensure the choke is in the correct position.
Regularly check and replace the cutting wheel as needed. Ensure the wheel is properly mounted and the arbor nut is tightened to the specified torque.
After each use, clean the air intake and cooling fins with a soft brush or compressed air to prevent overheating and ensure efficient operation.
Locate the idle speed screw on the carburetor. Turn it clockwise to increase the idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it until the engine runs smoothly at idle.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye and ear protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots. Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders and obstructions.
Drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the unit thoroughly and store it in a dry, dust-free environment.
Signs include difficulty starting, misfiring, or a noticeable decrease in performance. Inspect the spark plug for visible wear or damage and replace it if necessary.
Ensure the air filter is clean, the spark plug is in good condition, and the carburetor is properly adjusted. Keeping the machine well-maintained will enhance fuel efficiency.
