To start the Stihl TS 440, ensure the machine is on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to the start position, pull the starter grip slowly until you feel resistance, then pull it quickly. Once the engine fires, move the choke to the run position.
The Stihl TS 440 requires a fuel mixture of 50:1, which means 50 parts gasoline to 1 part 2-stroke engine oil. Always use high-quality oil and unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 10 hours of operation or more frequently if operating in dusty conditions. Replace the filter if it is damaged or excessively dirty.
If the engine floods, set the choke lever to the run position, pull the starter grip several times to clear excess fuel, and then try starting again without engaging the choke.
Check the fuel mixture, spark plug, and air filter. Ensure the spark plug is clean and properly gapped. Verify that the fuel is fresh and the air filter is not clogged.
For cutting concrete, use a diamond cutting wheel. Ensure the wheel is rated for the specific type of concrete and verify the maximum operating speed matches the saw’s specifications.
First, ensure the saw is off and cool. Loosen the tensioning nut, adjust the tension screw to the correct tension—where the belt can be depressed slightly with moderate force—and then retighten the nut.
Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, examining the fuel system, and ensuring the blade is properly tensioned and not damaged.
Overheating can be caused by a dirty air filter, incorrect fuel mixture, or insufficient lubrication. Ensure all components are clean and the fuel mixture is correct. Inspect the cooling fins for debris.
Clean the saw thoroughly, especially the air filter and blade. Empty the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer if storing for an extended period. Store in a dry, secure location away from direct sunlight.
