To start the Stihl RL-MM Yard Boss, first ensure that the unit is on a flat surface. Set the control lever to the 'Start' position, press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, and pull the starter grip firmly until the engine fires.
If the engine won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly connected, and verify that the air filter is not clogged. Additionally, make sure the choke is in the correct position for starting.
Regular maintenance of the tines includes cleaning them after each use to remove dirt and debris. Periodically check for signs of wear or damage and sharpen or replace them as necessary. Lubricate moving parts to prevent rust.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or damaged tines. Inspect the tines for wear or damage and replace if needed. Ensure all mounting hardware is secure and check for debris lodged in the tine area.
The air filter should be checked after every 5 hours of operation and cleaned or replaced if necessary. In dusty conditions, more frequent checks may be required.
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89, mixed with a high-quality 2-cycle engine oil at a 50:1 ratio. Avoid using fuel that contains more than 10% ethanol.
To store the Yard Boss, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the unit thoroughly, remove the spark plug, and add a small amount of oil into the cylinder before replacing the spark plug. Store in a dry, well-ventilated area.
A rough-running engine can result from a dirty air filter, old fuel, or a fouled spark plug. Check and clean the air filter, replace old fuel with a fresh mix, and inspect the spark plug for cleanliness and proper gap.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor. Turn the screw clockwise to increase idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it, ensuring the engine runs smoothly without the tines engaging.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as goggles, gloves, and sturdy footwear. Keep bystanders and pets at a safe distance, and avoid operating on steep slopes or uneven terrain. Read the manual thoroughly before use.
