The Stihl MS 880 requires a 50:1 fuel mixture. This means you should mix 50 parts of gasoline with 1 part of Stihl 2-cycle engine oil.
To start the MS 880, first engage the chain brake. Then, move the Master Control Lever to the cold start position, pull the starter rope until the engine fires, and then move the lever to the warm start position. Finally, pull the starter rope again until the engine runs.
If the MS 880 won't start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel mixture is correct. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, and clean or replace it as necessary. Also, check the air filter for clogs and clean it if needed.
The chain should be sharpened every time you refuel the chainsaw. Regular sharpening ensures optimal cutting performance and reduces the risk of accidents.
The Stihl MS 880 is designed to accommodate guide bars ranging from 17 inches to 59 inches, depending on the cutting requirements.
To maintain the air filter, remove it from the chainsaw and gently tap it to remove loose dirt. If necessary, wash the filter in warm soapy water, rinse, and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
Overheating can be caused by a clogged air filter, using the wrong fuel mixture, or a dull chain. Ensure the air filter is clean, the fuel mixture is correct, and the chain is sharp.
To adjust the chain tension, first loosen the nuts on the sprocket cover. Then, turn the tensioning screw clockwise to tighten or counterclockwise to loosen the chain. Re-tighten the nuts once the tension is correct.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking the spark plug, sharpening the chain, inspecting the guide bar for wear, and ensuring the chain tension is correct.
For long-term storage, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the chainsaw thoroughly, remove the chain and guide bar, and store them in a dry place. Lubricate the chain and bar before storage.
