To start the Stihl MS 462 C-M, ensure the chain brake is engaged, set the master control lever to the choke position, pull the starter cord until the engine fires briefly, then move the lever to the run position and pull the cord again to start the engine.
Use a fuel mix of 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to Stihl two-stroke engine oil. Ensure to use high-quality fuel and oil for optimal performance and longevity.
The MS 462 C-M features an M-Tronic system which automatically adjusts the carburetor settings. Manual adjustments are not necessary. Ensure the air filter is clean and use recommended fuel for best results.
To clean the air filter, remove the filter cover, take out the air filter, and gently tap it against a surface to remove debris. For thorough cleaning, wash with warm soapy water, rinse, dry completely, and reinstall.
If the chain on the MS 462 C-M is not moving, ensure the chain brake is not engaged. Check for proper chain tension and inspect the clutch and sprocket for wear or damage.
Sharpen the chain whenever you notice it is not cutting efficiently. This can vary based on usage, but typically after a few hours of cutting. Use a proper file and guide, or a chainsaw sharpener for best results.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking and tightening bolts, inspecting the chain and guide bar, cleaning the cooling fins, and checking the spark plug. Regularly lubricate the chain and adjust its tension.
Check the fuel level and quality, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly gapped, verify the air filter is clean, and make sure the decompression valve is functioning. Inspect the starter cord and recoil assembly for damage.
Clean the chainsaw thoroughly, drain the fuel tank, and run the engine until the carburetor is dry. Remove the chain and guide bar, clean, and lightly oil them. Store the chainsaw in a dry, secure place.
To replace the spark plug, remove the top cover, disconnect the spark plug boot, use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug, install the new plug by hand, and tighten with the wrench. Reattach the spark plug boot and cover.
