To start the Stihl MS 461 Rescue, ensure the chain brake is activated by pushing it forward. Set the Master Control Lever to the start position. Pull the starter handle slowly until you feel resistance, then pull quickly and firmly. Repeat until the engine fires. Once the engine is running, squeeze the throttle trigger to set it to idle.
The Stihl MS 461 Rescue requires a 50:1 fuel mix, which is 50 parts unleaded gasoline to 1 part Stihl 2-Stroke Engine Oil. Ensure that the gasoline has an octane rating of at least 89.
Check the following: Ensure there is fresh fuel in the tank, inspect the spark plug for damage or wear and replace if necessary, clean the air filter, and ensure the carburetor is properly adjusted. If the issue persists, consult a Stihl service technician.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, inspecting and cleaning the spark plug, checking the chain tension, sharpening the chain, and examining the guide bar for wear. Additionally, ensure the fuel and oil levels are adequate before use.
Use a round file with the correct diameter for your chain. File each cutter with an even number of strokes, maintaining the original angle of the cutting edge. Ensure the depth gauges are also maintained at the correct height using a depth gauge tool.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment such as chainsaw chaps, gloves, helmet, ear protection, and eye protection. Ensure the work area is clear of obstructions and other people. Always use the chainsaw with both hands and keep a firm grip.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. Use a brush or compressed air to clean the filter, being careful not to damage it. If the filter is excessively dirty or damaged, replace it with a new one.
First, check if the chain brake is engaged and release it if necessary. Inspect the chain tension and adjust if it’s too tight. Ensure the clutch and sprocket are in good condition and free of debris.
Locate the three adjustment screws marked L (low speed), H (high speed), and LA (idle speed). Use a screwdriver to adjust these screws. Turn the L screw to adjust low-speed performance, the H screw for high-speed performance, and the LA screw for idling speed. It’s advisable to consult the manual or a professional for precise tuning.
Use a high-quality bar and chain oil to ensure effective lubrication of the chain and bar. Stihl recommends using their own brand of chain oil for optimal performance and protection.
