To start the Stihl MS 441 C-M, ensure the chain brake is engaged, set the Master Control Lever to the choke position, pull the starter rope until the engine fires briefly, then move the lever to the half-throttle position and pull again until the engine starts.
Use a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to STIHL 2-Stroke oil. Mix thoroughly in a suitable container before filling the chainsaw's fuel tank.
Check the fuel and air filters, ensure the spark plug is clean and functional, verify the correct fuel mixture, and examine the carburetor for clogs. If problems persist, consult a professional.
Loosen the nuts on the sprocket cover, turn the tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the bar, and then re-tighten the nuts. Ensure the chain moves freely by hand.
Regularly clean the air filter, check the chain tension, inspect the spark plug, and ensure the guide bar is properly lubricated. Sharpen the chain as needed.
Overheating can be caused by a clogged air filter, incorrect fuel mixture, or insufficient lubrication. Check these elements and ensure the cooling fins are clean.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the air filter, and clean it with warm soapy water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
While STIHL recommends using its own brand of 2-stroke oil, high-quality alternatives that meet the JASO-FD or ISO-L-EGD standards can be used.
Sharpen the chain using a round file of the appropriate size, ensuring to maintain the correct angles. Alternatively, have it professionally sharpened.
Empty the fuel tank, run the engine until it stops, clean the chainsaw thoroughly, and store it in a dry, dust-free environment.
