To start the Stihl MS 400 C-M, ensure it is on a stable surface. Set the Master Control Lever to the start position, pull the starter handle until you feel resistance, then give it a brisk pull. Repeat if necessary until the engine starts.
If the chain is not cutting properly, check if it is properly sharpened and tensioned. Ensure that the chain is not dull and the depth gauges are set correctly. Regular sharpening and maintenance can prevent these issues.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 5 hours of operation, or more frequently in dusty conditions. A clean air filter ensures optimal performance and prolongs engine life.
Stalling can be caused by a clogged air filter, old or improper fuel, or a dirty carburetor. Check and clean the air filter, ensure the fuel is fresh, and clean the carburetor if necessary.
Use a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil mixed with unleaded gasoline at a ratio of 50:1. This ensures optimal engine performance and longevity.
To replace the chain, first ensure the chainsaw is off and cooled down. Remove the sprocket cover, release the chain tension, remove the old chain, and fit the new chain onto the guide bar. Reinstall the sprocket cover and adjust the chain tension properly.
To tension the chain, loosen the nuts on the sprocket cover slightly and use the tensioning screw to adjust. The chain should be tight enough to not sag, yet move freely along the guide bar. Tighten the sprocket cover nuts once adjusted.
Regularly check the bar and chain oil level before each use. Fill the reservoir with the recommended bar and chain oil to ensure proper lubrication during operation.
Excessive smoke can result from using the wrong fuel mix, a clogged air filter, or an improperly adjusted carburetor. Verify the fuel mixture and clean the air filter. If the issue persists, check the carburetor settings.
If the chainsaw won't start, check the fuel level and mixture, inspect the spark plug for wear and proper gap, and ensure the air filter is clean. If all else fails, consult a professional technician.
