To start the Stihl MS 362, first ensure the chain brake is engaged. Set the master control lever to the 'start' position. Pull the starter rope until the engine fires briefly. Move the lever to the 'run' position and pull the starter rope again until the engine starts.
To adjust the chain tension, ensure the chainsaw is off and cool. Loosen the bar nuts slightly, adjust the tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the bar but can still be moved by hand. Tighten the bar nuts securely.
Clean the air filter after every 10 hours of operation, or more frequently in dusty conditions. Remove the cover, take out the filter, and clean it with warm soapy water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
Use a high-quality 2-stroke engine oil mixed at a 50:1 ratio with unleaded gasoline having a minimum octane rating of 89. Avoid using ethanol blends greater than 10%.
Check the fuel level and quality, ensuring it's fresh and properly mixed. Inspect the spark plug for wear or fouling and replace if necessary. Clean the air filter and check for blockages in the fuel line.
Use a round file with a file guide to sharpen each cutter. File from the inside to the outside of each cutter, maintaining the original angle. Ensure all cutters are of the same length and depth gauges are set correctly.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug as needed, inspecting the chain tension and sharpening, and cleaning the guide bar groove and oil passages.
Check the oil tank for oil and ensure the oil passages are clear. Inspect the oil pump and replace if necessary. Ensure the guide bar oil hole is not blocked.
Ensure the anti-vibration mounts are intact and not worn out. Maintain a sharp chain and correctly tensioned chain to reduce vibration. Use proper handling techniques and grip.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, eye and ear protection, and chainsaw chaps. Ensure the work area is clear of obstacles and maintain a firm grip on the saw.
