Stihl MS 360 Instruction Manual

To start a Stihl MS 360, first ensure the chain brake is engaged. Set the master control lever to the cold start position by pulling out the choke. Pull the starter handle slowly until you feel resistance, then give it a brisk pull. Once the engine fires, push in the choke and pull the starter again until the engine runs.
The correct fuel mixture for the Stihl MS 360 is a 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to 2-stroke engine oil. Make sure to use high-quality oil designed for air-cooled engines.
If your MS 360 won't start, check the following: ensure the fuel is fresh and correctly mixed, the spark plug is clean and functioning, the air filter is clean, and the carburetor is properly adjusted. If these steps don't work, consult a professional.
Clean the air filter after every 10 hours of operation, or more frequently in dusty conditions. Remove the cover, take out the filter, and clean it with warm, soapy water. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, cleaning the fuel and oil tanks, sharpening the chain, and checking the chain tension. Additionally, keep the guide bar clean and ensure the lubrication system is functioning.
To adjust the chain tension, ensure the chainsaw is turned off and cool. Loosen the bar nuts slightly, then turn the tensioning screw clockwise to tighten the chain or counterclockwise to loosen it. The chain should be snug against the bar but still able to move freely. Tighten the bar nuts once adjusted.
If the chain keeps coming off, check the chain tension and adjust as needed. Also, inspect the guide bar and sprocket for wear or damage. Ensure the chain is properly sharpened and not excessively worn, as this can affect its fit and function.
To sharpen the chain, secure the chainsaw in place and use a round file that matches the chain's specifications. File each cutter at the correct angle, maintaining consistent pressure and strokes. Ensure each cutter is the same length for balanced operation.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, eye protection, ear protection, and chainsaw chaps. Ensure the work area is clear of obstacles, maintain a secure footing, and never operate the chainsaw above shoulder height. Engage the chain brake when not actively cutting.
For long-term storage, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor of fuel. Clean the chainsaw, remove the chain and bar, and store them separately. Lubricate metal parts to prevent rust, and store the saw in a dry, secure place.
