To start the Stihl MS 341/MS 361, ensure the chain brake is engaged, set the master control lever to the cold start position, pull the starter rope until the engine fires, then move the lever to the warm start position and pull again.
Stihl recommends using a 50:1 fuel mix ratio, which means 50 parts gasoline to 1 part 2-stroke engine oil. Use high-quality unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89.
The air filter should be cleaned regularly, especially after every 10 hours of operation or sooner if operating in dusty conditions. Replace it if it shows signs of damage or excessive dirt that cannot be cleaned.
To tension the chain, loosen the bar nuts slightly, adjust the tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the underside of the guide bar but can still be moved by hand, then retighten the bar nuts.
Check for common issues such as a clogged air filter, a fouled spark plug, or old fuel. Ensure the spark plug is clean and properly gapped, and that the fuel is fresh and properly mixed.
Regularly sharpen the chain, maintain proper tension, and ensure it is properly lubricated with bar oil during use. Additionally, avoid cutting dirty or abrasive materials.
If the chainsaw overheats, turn it off and allow it to cool. Check for blockages in the air intake and cooling fins, ensure proper fuel mix, and verify that the chain is sharp and tensioned correctly.
To replace the spark plug, remove the top cover, disconnect the spark plug boot, unscrew the old spark plug using a spark plug wrench, and install a new plug with the correct gap setting.
After each use, clean the chainsaw thoroughly, inspect the chain and guide bar for wear or damage, check the chain tension, and ensure the air filter is not clogged. Lubricate the bar and chain if necessary.
If the chainsaw cuts unevenly, check if the chain is sharp and evenly filed. Inspect the guide bar for warping or wear and ensure the chain is properly tensioned and lubricated.
