To mix fuel for these chainsaws, use a 50:1 ratio of gasoline to 2-stroke engine oil. This means 2.6 ounces of oil per gallon of gasoline. Always use fresh, high-quality fuel and oil specifically designed for 2-stroke engines.
To start the MS 290, ensure the chain brake is engaged, place the saw on the ground, switch the ignition to 'On', set the choke, and pull the starter cord until the engine fires. Once it fires, move the choke to the run position and pull again to start.
If the MS 310 won't start, check the fuel for freshness, inspect the spark plug for damage or fouling, ensure the air filter is clean, and verify that the carburetor is properly adjusted.
Regular maintenance for the MS 390 includes cleaning or replacing the air filter, inspecting and cleaning the spark plug, sharpening the chain, checking the chain tension, and inspecting the guide bar for wear.
To adjust the chain tension, loosen the bar nuts, turn the tensioning screw to adjust the chain tension until it fits snugly against the bar but can still be moved by hand, and then retighten the bar nuts.
If the chain is not cutting properly, it may be dull. Sharpen the chain using a file or a chainsaw sharpener. Make sure the chain is properly tensioned and the depth gauges are set correctly.
Use high-quality bar and chain oil to lubricate the bar and chain of your MS 390. This oil is specifically formulated to adhere to the chain and provide lubrication during operation.
To clean the air filter, remove it from the chainsaw, gently tap it to remove loose dirt, and wash it in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly, allow it to dry completely, and then reinstall it.
If the MS 310 is overheating, ensure proper ventilation by cleaning any debris from the air intake and cooling fins. Check the fuel mixture for accuracy and ensure the carburetor is correctly adjusted.
To store the MS 390, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the chainsaw thoroughly, remove the chain and bar, and store them separately. Keep the chainsaw in a dry, dust-free environment.
