To start the Stihl MS 280 C, first ensure the saw is on a flat surface. Engage the chain brake, set the Master Control Lever to the starting position, pull the starter rope until the engine fires, then push the choke control back in and pull the starter rope again until the engine runs.
Regular maintenance for the Stihl MS 280 C includes cleaning the air filter, sharpening the chain, checking the chain tension, inspecting the spark plug, and ensuring the fuel and oil levels are adequate.
If the MS 280 C is not cutting efficiently, check if the chain is dull or improperly tensioned. Additionally, inspect the guide bar for wear and ensure the chain is lubricated properly.
For starting issues, ensure the fuel is fresh and the air filter is clean. Check the spark plug for wear or carbon build-up and replace if necessary. Make sure the decompression valve is functioning if applicable.
The Stihl MS 280 C requires a fuel mix of 50:1 ratio of gasoline to 2-stroke engine oil. Use high-quality oil and unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89.
The frequency of sharpening depends on usage and conditions. It is recommended to sharpen the chain after every few hours of cutting, or sooner if the chain becomes dull.
If the chain comes off, check the chain tension and ensure it's properly adjusted. Inspect the guide bar for damage and ensure the sprocket is not worn out.
To clean the air filter, remove the cover, take out the filter, and use a brush or compressed air to remove debris. If the filter is heavily soiled, wash it in warm soapy water and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
When storing, empty the fuel tank, clean the saw, and remove the chain and guide bar. Store the saw in a dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Overheating can be caused by a dirty air filter, a dull chain, or insufficient lubrication. Ensure the air intake is clear, the chain is sharp, and the oil reservoir is filled.
