To start the Stihl MS 201 TC-M, ensure the chain brake is engaged, set the Master Control Lever to the cold start position, pull the starter rope until you hear the engine fire, then move the Master Control Lever to the warm start position and pull again until the engine runs.
Check the fuel level and quality, ensure the spark plug is in good condition and properly gapped, verify the air filter is clean, and make sure the carburetor settings are correct. If problems persist, consult the user manual or a professional technician.
Sharpen the chain every time you refuel the chainsaw, or as soon as you notice it isn’t cutting efficiently. Use a round file and a filing guide for best results.
Ensure the chainsaw is off and the chain brake is engaged. Loosen the bar nuts slightly, adjust the tensioning screw until the chain fits snugly against the bar but can still be moved by hand, then retighten the bar nuts.
Inspect the chain for damage or improper tension, check that the guide bar is secure, and ensure the anti-vibration mounts are intact. Replace any damaged components and verify that the saw is properly assembled.
Regularly clean the air filter by removing it and gently tapping out debris. If heavily soiled, wash it in warm soapy water, rinse, and let it dry completely before reinstalling. Replace the filter if it shows signs of damage.
Mix unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 with high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at a ratio of 50:1. Shake the mixture well before using and avoid storing it for more than 30 days.
Check and adjust the chain tension, inspect the guide bar for damage or wear, ensure the drive sprocket is in good condition, and verify that the chain is properly installed. Replace any worn or damaged parts.
Regularly inspect the chain brake for wear and ensure it engages and disengages smoothly. Clean the brake band and surrounding area of debris. If the brake is not functioning properly, have it serviced by a professional.
Signs include difficulty starting the engine, rough idling, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption. Inspect the spark plug for deposits, wear, or damage, and replace it if necessary.
