To start the Stihl MS 194 C-E, first engage the chain brake. Set the master control lever to the cold start position. Pull the starter rope until you hear the engine fire. Move the control lever to the warm start position, then pull the starter rope again until the engine runs.
The Stihl MS 194 C-E requires a 50:1 ratio of gasoline to 2-stroke engine oil. Use high-quality, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89 and a 2-stroke oil that meets the TC classification.
If the chainsaw won't start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel mixture is correct. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Make sure the air filter is clean and the carburetor settings are correct.
The air filter should be checked and cleaned after every 5 hours of operation, or more frequently in dusty conditions. Remove the filter, tap out any debris, and wash it with warm soapy water if necessary. Ensure it is dry before reinstalling.
Regularly check the chain tension and adjust as needed. Sharpen the chain regularly and ensure it is lubricated with bar oil. Inspect the guide bar for wear and replace it if necessary.
To replace the spark plug, first ensure the engine is cool. Remove the spark plug boot and use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug. Install the new spark plug, ensuring it is the correct type and gap, then reattach the spark plug boot.
If the chain is not rotating, make sure the chain brake is not engaged. Check the sprocket and clutch for damage or obstructions. Ensure the chain tension is correct and that the chain is properly lubricated.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the adjustment screws marked L (low speed), H (high speed), and LA (idle). Turn the screws slowly while the engine is running to achieve optimal performance. Refer to the user manual for specific settings.
Always wear protective gear such as gloves, goggles, and ear protection. Ensure the chain brake is engaged when starting the chainsaw. Be aware of your surroundings and maintain a stable footing while operating the chainsaw.
For long-term storage, clean the chainsaw thoroughly and empty the fuel tank. Run the engine until it stops to clear any fuel from the carburetor. Remove the chain and guide bar, then store the chainsaw in a dry, dust-free environment.
