To start the Stihl MS 193, ensure it is on a level surface. Set the Master Control Lever to the cold start position, pull the starter rope until the engine fires briefly, then move the lever to the warm start position and pull again to start the engine.
Check the chain tension regularly. The chain should be taut but move freely. To adjust, loosen the bar nuts slightly, turn the tensioning screw to adjust the chain, and retighten the bar nuts.
Clean the air filter after every 5 hours of operation or more frequently in dusty conditions. Remove the filter cover, take out the filter, and clean it with warm soapy water or replace it if it's worn out.
Use a high-quality 2-cycle engine oil mixed with gasoline at a 50:1 ratio. Always use fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 89.
Ensure the fuel tank has fresh fuel. Check the spark plug for fouling and clean or replace it if necessary. Verify that the air filter is clean and inspect the fuel lines for any blockages or damage.
First, ensure the chainsaw is off and the chain brake is engaged. Loosen the bar nuts, remove the sprocket cover, and take off the old chain. Fit the new chain onto the bar, ensuring it is in the correct direction, and reassemble the cover and nuts.
Sharpen the chain using a round file of the correct diameter. File each cutter using consistent strokes at a 30-degree angle. Alternatively, take the chain to a professional for sharpening.
Check that the air intake and cooling fins are not blocked with debris. Ensure that the chain is properly lubricated and that the oil reservoir is filled. Regularly clean the saw to prevent overheating.
Regular maintenance is key. Keep the chain sharp, maintain proper tension, clean the air filter frequently, use the correct fuel mix, and store the chainsaw in a dry place. Conduct periodic inspections for wear and tear.
Inspect the chain for uneven sharpening or wear. Sharpen the chain evenly, ensuring each cutter is the same length, or replace it if necessary. Also, check the guide bar for wear and replace it if needed.
